So I was informed my truck frame was in and they have started to tear into my truck ... I was informed by service manager that my Shock bolts were rusted fast to frame and they can't remove them same with front sway bar end links and they needed to be cut off.. They will install new parts labor free but I need to purchase parts ... 336.80 for links and 591.34 shocks and I believe struts .. I said my shocks were fine and I didn't have a front end problem .. I was told well if they can't be removed they have to cut the stuff off... I said if it must be done do it... a few days later they said they were putting truck back together and can't bleed caliper bleeder is seized I need a new one cost 131.00 aND rotors have excessive rust need to be cut... 40.00 I said caliper had no issue and rust is probably from sit ting on your lot for 9 months not being touched other than thief stealing my wheels and tires on your lot.... Ne

Long storie short be prepared to pUT out some coin because if parts can't be removed easily no matter if they are good or not they will be cut off and u will be charged for the new parts full retail and of course labor free

Toyota's handling of this issue is very very disappointing. They should eat some of the cost for replacing these frames....WE were sold bad frames...WE should be compensated for buying $30,000 rust buckets../

Damn, that sucks. You could have got the end links shipped from Rock Auto for around $75, and put 5100's on front and back from Wheeler's for about $350.

I didnt have any problems when I took mine in, but I cut my own swaybar links off last year, and had new shocks and tie rod ends.

I would have fought that. An additional 9 months of inactivity with the truck just sitting there....... rotting away.

You screwed yourself by agreeing to pay the extra charges. Now you gotta pay them.

Wow, that sucks, your in a tough spot.. I think the process is unfortunately highly dealer dependent.
Ours was done in April and exact words out of the service managers mouth; 'If any parts break when we take them off they will be replaced.. no cost to you.'
I payed $16 to replace all four security wheel nuts with regular nuts- that was it.

My lower strut bolts were seized and they tried to torch them off. Had to replace front struts, but I did go and check to make sure they were truthful. I also had water pump replaced due to 155,000 miles. So cost to me was 620.00 for 2 struts and pump, they did charge me 1/2 hour labor for pump. Sad part is after my frame replacement truck sits 1" lower in front and 2"s in rear. They removed the blocks for my Timbrens and had trashed them, just got a sorry from dealer and Toyota. But the truck does ride better than new, the rear leafs are a huge improvement over 3 leaf pack.

I was to the point where I just wanted my truck back I had a Suv the entire time on there dime but needed my truck... I called Toyota Corp and was told they have no control over what the dealership needs to do for the replacement labor is free parts needed are my responsibility. . I said my shocks struts sway bar links caliber were fine as far as I was concerned. . The dealer told me if bolts can't be backed out by impact gun they cut stuff off because they only have X amount of hours to do job and they can't spend the time on it..

I think most attorneys would salivate at the opportunity to go after Toyota or that dealership given these circumstances.

But then what do you do with the guy who brings his truck in that has never been maintained and is running in on rotors that have been ground down to nothing, blown out shocks, blown out exhaust, and oil that hasn't been changed in 30k miles?

I'd be contacting Toyota Corporate over this one. This seems like bull crap to me. Anything that's rusted TO the frame could easily be attributed to the frame itself rusting.

Rust is basically cancer for metal. If two metal parts have a contact point that rust is going to eventually spread. Period.

If the frame rusted to the parts and those parts have to be broken/destroyed in order to replace that frame then Toyota should be paying for it. Period. Whether or not they are aftermarket in this case shouldn't matter. The frame rusted onto those parts. And Toyota is replacing the frame because they know and admit the frame itself is defective. No other admission should be needed.
