Yeah Ive driven 2 of th 2016s.
I was disappointed first time around but second time I loved it.

Yes there are a few things I think Toyota dropped the ball on, however there are other aspects they killed it on.

I'll defend their styling decisions. By shitting on the competition.

The Colorado is a truck made to look like a crossover. its got curved corners and a hood that rolls over the top of the front end like a sedan. It doesn't use the double stack headlights is are a main styling element of their trucks. It's got the long-on-top trapezoid grill like the Traverse but it does have the split at the bow tie. The headlights are long and wrap around the body but have a winged flick upwards. It reminds me of eye liner.

If you loved the Sierra but only wished it was only 7/8's the size and looked exactly the same. Dreams do come true.

I can't be bothered to make fun of Nissan because lol Frontier and double lol Titan.

The tundras got a long face that droops down, makes it look dopey. The 2nd gen tacoma looks like its laughing, especially in that picture I picked. The 3rd gen Tacoma looks downright mean. The headlights are small and slanted downwards towards the middle, giving it angry eyes. The "mouth" of the lower grill is neutral and small.

I'm glad it has a unique style that is an aggressive departure from the 2nd gen. Whether or not you like those styling directions is up to you. But the point of styling is to get attention and the fact that everyone is talking about it means mission accomplished.

    Untitled-1.jpg

    That was fun.

First one was the sr5 I don't really like the look of the new tacoma without the scoop and I don't like the sr5 grill.

First time I drove I felt like it had as much power as the 2nd gen.

Second one was the sport. I really like the outside of it going into the drive.
This time I engaged the ect power button and stepped on it. I noticed a bigger difference in power over the 2nd gen. I also got to swerve and slam on the brakes so I got a pretty good feel for it. To me it felt like a big truck but drove like a small one which was cool.

Over all the interior is killer on both trucks.

I have one of the new Cherokees, wife's car....not even in the same class as a truck. Vehicle is incredibly light and small and the drivetrain is WAY light duty. Having problems with them since the word go. But yes the mileage is awesome.

What makes "me" wonder is how they are getting better mileage (than toyota) out of F150's and Silverados with the huge increase in frontal surface area.

I think the mpgs are my biggest disappoint with 3rd gen.
You would think a company that has the fuel cell car and Prius would be more fuel efficent for trucks and such.

They took the work aspect out of the Tacoma with this redesign a little IMO. The cheapest Tacoma that a dealer will likely have will be 25-27k.

I agree. Mid sizers are moving towards the crossover side of the utility spectrum.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Actually got to drive one today, the interior is a big improvement and with the exception of the front view I like the truck. For some reason the big grille on the raptors and other full sized trucks looks good to me but just haven't gotten use to it on the mid sized I guess? The 4 runner front end didn't grow on me so ended up with going with another manufacturer even though I really liked how it handled.

Speaking of the cheapest, has anyone dared try out a 4 cyl Taco ? They had none at the roll out. The Colorado had one that reviewers could drive....
    Is it in hiding ?

Like many (most?) 4th Gen 4Runner owners, I had (and still have) many criticisms of the 5th Gen 4Runner when it debuted in 2010. You should have seen the thread over on toyota-4runner.org.

Toyota didn't listen to us and it has sold pretty well. I'm sure the same will happen with the Taco. It will continue to sell well, despite the big grill and the drum brakes.

Couldn't have said it better.. Our voice is probably the least heard.. If anything, I want to say that as far as the 3rd Gen goes, it's probably the one aimed MORE towards enthusiasts here. Who DO take the beaten path and modify them to meet their needs. Whether be the ones doing Black Bear Pass(me:headbang:), or take them on camping trips, fishing trips, local fire roads, sand dunes, beach, MOAB, etc., etc.... Most folks here are here because someone else here is into the same thing they are and the Taco is the common factor.. Same thing with the 4runner crowd and the Land Cruiser crowd.. Face it folks, we're the 5%.. If even that...

According to Toyota, 40% of Tacomas are TRDs. I know, it surprised me too, but when I look around at them here, I'd have to say that's pretty accurate.

True that! This 3rd gen hate is just like what happened over on T4R. It was even worse when they debuted the 5th gen facelift a couple of years ago. I wasn't a fan of the 5th gen at first, but grew to like it. When they introduced the facelift I hated it again, and now I think the facelift looks badass. It's just what happens when a new model is introduced. I'm sure we'll see the same thing when the 2017 4Runner is introduced, although I've heard that it hasn't changed much.

    Maybe they'll call the 2017 the 5.5 gen on T4R ;)

Der... I forgot about the death of the RC. Those were the big fleet sales... Makes sense to flood the market with higher priced TRD product, take advantage of the hype people have created for themselves. I'm going to drive at least one tomorrow while I'm at the dealer. We'll see how many they'll let me drive...
