Does anyone have a factory tonneau cover on their new 2016 Tacoma?

The factory trifold cover on the '16 looks like it's too short! Someone goofed up and forgot to tell the supplier/manufacturer that the '16 box has an extended lip, so a longer tonneau cover is needed.

This cover on the 14 is aftermarket. I have the same Access LiteRider roll up that rolls up out of the way when not needed. So tincan, you may want to investigate that option for your dog crates, but I suspect that because of the rear lip on the '16 box, they may be too short as well. The trifolds are just plain stupid IMO, as they are convoluted, and always in the way.

Saw cover on 2016 Limited today - the corners were definitely not tight against rail. I guess you can tighten - did not seem very secure // it does not use metal rail system which is right below plastic holding system for Toyota cover - The current rail system would be lot more secure. I would not leave my gun or golf clubs in. It look ok and form fitted truck bed nicely. Could easily say this is an minimum effort cover - certainly nothing special! EPA is making Toyota add to a certain percentage - suppose to increase gas mileage -- more stupidity from EPA. Not available except factory install. -for now this cover will not be an Toyota accessory Item.

 

Is the long bed immune from this plague???

 

What do mean immune? You don't have to buy it if you don't want to. But yes, you can get it for the LB.

I saw one today on a short bed. There is no lock on the cover, but you can only access the latch with the tailgate open.

I agree with taczilla, it looks like it's too short!

 

Maybe the short bed version is weird and the long bed version is ok?

 

Thanks for posting. So when you say there is no lock on the cover, does this mean there is no lock on the section close to the cab on the driver's side like in the Toyota video I posted above? I don't think there was supposed to be a lock on the back section.

 

I know that on the passenger side there was a similar looking cap that covered a bolt. But I noticed that and opened it because I was curious. I didn't notice either a key hole or an option to open the cover from the front on the driver's side (I could have missed it, and didn't get a picture). This one definitely different than the video though, it looks completely different, connects differently, etc.

 

So with this cover installed, I couldn't fold it back and put a couch (perpendicular) up against the cab? Is that right? Seems silly to me.

I suppose that 3-4 ft space that's covered between the cab and the couch could be used to store the pillows though?

That cover looks awful. They don't have a BakFlip F1 available yet for 2016, but I will be getting another one of them. Has been awesome on my '12. Water tight, lays completely flat, folds up against the cab for full bed use without having to remove it, and is secured by locking your tailgate (added a power lock to my '12)

 

Awesome! If I had to replace my 15 all would be well(except that grill)

 

so I see that the oem tri-fold where it meets the rear spoiler has too thick of a rubber seal to sit flush. so it is making it look out of place.

good thing I will be adding a access standard roll up cover after the fact.

 

My dealer is selling me a truck from their allocation and they refused to take it off or order me a truck without one. I fought for the price I wanted without the tonneau and got it, so I'm considering it free. It doesn't have anywhere near the security I'd like when I transport dive gear and firearms, so it will be up for sale as soon as I can replace it.

 

This is just a thought and I could be completely wrong, but I am presuming the tonneau cover was installed with the tailgate already up. What if the tailgate is opened, the end of the tonneau cover at the tailgate then is locked down, and then shut the tailgate which would put pressure on the rubber seal. This may allow the cover to lie completely flat and train the seal to be in a position to be molded against the tailgate instead of sitting on top. Just a thought and I may be off base as I haven't seen one in person yet.
