    Hello TW!

Has anyone got a chance to hear them? Are they worth it or am I better off getting aftermarket myself?

    Where is the subwoofer located?

    Thanks!:)

Subwoofer takes up the storage space behind the "60" side of the 60/40 split rear seats.

The loss of that space is a dealbreaker for me.

Exactly why I said "typically." I've seen plenty of not-so-typical mods in this forum, and no doubt someone can have even cleaner DIY results. Unfortunately, my skills are typical at best. I'll likely go with the JBL system despite the storage loss. Would have been nice if they could have squeezed it all behind just the center seat and had another "40" size storage space on the passenger side.

Not neccesarly, audios deep. What sounds great to one might not the other.. Everybody's ears are a little different at least to some degree.

OP the best thing you could do, is go listen to one yourself.. That's the only way you'll know how YOU like it...

It's been a while since I've heard a JBL system in a Tacoma, but I liked it. I have after market system in my truck, heavily sound deadened, Hybrid audio (front and rears), two 12 Pioneer subs, two amps - Pioneer Double Din etc.. Had a guy at a well established stereo shop say it was the best sounding Tacoma he'd ever heard (others think it sounds great too).. To be honest from what I remember of the JBL's I'd rather just had it, then sound deadened.. I do have sensitive hearing tho, tinnitus 24-7 and sound irratibilty, so I'm probably an exception to most.. But I found the JBL Tacoma set up to be pretty warm and not fatiguing to my ears.. Not super bright more of a flat sound but well equalized for what it was.. It might not have the power that some after market ones do tho, like mine, I could crank it up where you wouldn't be able to stand it with out distortion..

It really boils down to the person tho.. You could go spend 10k on the so called best of everything, but if it's not tuned to YOUR ears and liking, you'll hate it and wish you hadn't spent so much.. But could take a system with decent speakers (be it Tacoma JBL's) but well tuned to you and love it.

    And Welcome to TW.

I think it sounds excellent. Rattles the rear view mirror. Some distortion at full volume which I will never go to again :)
Sounds better than my 10 year old factory Chevy Bose system.

Look for this button, it changes the electrical properties of your JBL system, it increases bass, treble and mid across the speakers and sub.

I guess I'm not familiar enough with the potential difficulties of modding one with it.. Seems like I heard of some talk a long time ago tho.

Yeah you CAN do better, but it's a relative term.. But basically goes back to what I said, if you got the so called better stuff and it wasn't tuned right, it wouldn't sound better.

I personally want a little bass, but don't need to shake the pictures hanging on my living room walls. Also want a factory look without installing amp, building a box, and running wires.

If you want chest pounding bass, go aftermarket. If you just want a better sound than factory entire step it up to jbl.

If I was going after ketchup I would do amp, sub, back miss and highs, front mids, highs, small subs (assuming tacoma will hold 5 inchers), and head unit.

But I'm older, I don't need that much sound, I want a factory look, and I'm not putting thatch one in stereos anymore. Not when a stock system looks clean, songs decent, and will do evert hinges I ask.

Is it leaps and bounds over the entune? No, but it does sound more balanced and will give a little deep bass only a crossed over sub can provide

I'd rather have the storage space on the driver's side even if it means losing the larger storage. I'd rather not have to walk around the truck or reach across. It's a convenience trade off. Besides, it looks like that small storage space looks to be about thee effect size to transport a 6-pack or two of beer without having them tip over and roll everywhere. I'd get more use out of the small one.

You do realize, if you went after market and were wanting more bass, you'll end up with even less space with an aftermarket setup right?

To you. Others might think different. It's almost like asking a person if they like a certain song you love, but then they're like nah, just don't like the sound, I'd rather listen to T-Pain yah heard.. Then you're like nah I didn't heard, and just move along to a new friend if you're smart..
