I used 1/16" thick rubber. It worked good for the set I made for my f150. Also thats all my local Ace hardware store had. It cuts with a scissors and is easy to work with.

All I know is if Toyota left that gap for cooling purposes, they did it wrong.

Thanks again for your hard work. Looking forward to creating a set with your assistance (if you so choose).

Send one my way! Just sent a message to a local rubber company for 1/8in thick sheets .....Didn't know how many different types of rubber was outthere until I looked up the site. I let them know about Oil,gas, water, high heat, and abrasion. As soon as they reply I'll post specs. On what they recommend
I've worked with rubber roofing through work and question long term durability in this application. I'm sure it will last for years but why not over kill it.

Nice thread OP! Great job on the mod.

I'm adding to the already cool idea, by adding some sound deadening on the engine side to help reduce the Taco Tick lol hope it works.

Just got one - thank you, sir.

Based upon what I've read, prior to installing I'm going to make sure whatever material I use is heat resistant and has enough slack for suspension movement.

You can also get sheet rubber on Amazon, I used some on my spare tire to keep the frame from wearing grooves into it.

    Blow it through the roof
You dont need slack for suspension movement, you need it for frame/body flexing

@Notch46 since you are selling a template, can you share with us what/how much/where you got the material please? I would like to investigate the price of material to get an idea of total project price before pulling trigger on template

The template measures 35 1/2" long and 14 1/2" wide. I used 1/16" rubber I got at my local Ace hardware. I'm sure you can use 1/8" with no issues. The 1/16" is flexible and cuts with a normal scissors. You could also try tractor supply or other stores like that for the rubber. The xmass tree push pins I got from Napa but any auto parts store will have them.

How much did the rubber cost from Ace?
