This is exactly why Toyota isn't worried about the few who don't like the new look. Enthusiast forum members do not represent the majority of truck buyers.

A perfect example of this here on TW is the whole "I hate chrome" group. To read around on TW you would think every American hates any chrome on their truck, yet almost 100% of new trucks (all brands not just Toyota) have chrome grills, door handles, emblems, etc. If this were true manufacturers would certainly stop putting something as simple and cheap to change as chrome on at least most of their models.

I guess I fall in that 5-10 percent, and for others like me, Tacoma really is the best option for a true off-road capable vehicle with decent towing/hauling capacity.

A lot of folks seem to like the fact they have "the capability" even if they rarely ever use it. Kinda like buying a 1911 for conceal carry... do you really need a large frame .45 for self defense when a 9mm subcompact will more than do the job? Another debate entirely I suppose. ;)

Looks fun! I guess it depends on the trail...and how much money you have invested in your rig. But for a stock-off-the-lot vehicle at a reasonable price, Tacoma wins in functionality and capability...IMO. I've had my Cherokee down some trails that no way a full-size vehicle would make it, regardless of upgrades.

It wouldn't take much to get the Colorado to have the same capabilities of the Tacoma. Set of coilovers...or even those ghey spacers lift to get the nose up. That diesel might prove even better off road than the Tacoma, better torque, better mpg/range....whilst having much better payload too.

Everything has pros and cons....I was wheeling a RCLB F250 before I started buying Toyotas...the F250 went everywhere I put the Toyotas....and really, the Tacomas have limitations too (if you're really into tough offroad trails)...they can't do what a dirt bike can do...you can do this with a stock bike right off the showroom floor.

I currently drive a small car with a V8 that revs to 8,400.
    - Do I need to get from 0-60 in 4 seconds every time I take off? Absolutely not.
    - Do I do it occasional? Yes.
    - Is it spectacular when I do? Yes.

    That dude is an alien...

As for off-road prowl-ness of a pickup...it isn't what most people base their buying decisions, sure the Tacoma is good...but since I do ride dirt bikes, it is way down on the list of "must haves". I think for the majority of truck buyers...that need an all around truck...there are plenty of viable options out there other than a Tacoma. This lack luster update and the price hike (hell, I can't even get it in the configuration that I want TRDORACMT, what the fuck Toyota!?)...I do believe people are going to look elsewhere...the other options aren't perfect either, but the Tacoma isn't as shining bright as it used to.

I dunno for a 4Wheeled offroad vehicle....looks like the SideXSides are taking over...and people just want a tow vehicle to get them to the trail.

Oh yeah...different strokes. There is my neighbor down the street, he has a Tacoma for running around, a crew cab diesel chevy 3500 for towing the Toy Hauler...and a SideXSide. I think he is smarter than the average bear.... :D

I am/was a long time fan boi of Toyota trucks...though I am getting a little tired of making excuses for its' short comings....at least the American version we get, probably wouldn't bitch if we got the HiLux....we get the watered down version. The Tacoma could be so much much more, and it wouldn't take much...if Toyota really wants to focus on the off-road market...give us the truck you can really load up and go beat the shit out of.

The full-sized seem to do just fine.
Although that doesn't seem like "off-road" to me. That's like a path.

Watching these videos remind me why I don't off-road #1 I'm better off trail running. If I wanted to sit in a truck and go nowhere I'd buy a Chevy (ha!). #2 I'm too redneck for it. In that video of the Hummer, the only reason he had trouble with one of his wheels up was he wasn't going fast enough. I'd roll back and just gun it.
Probably best I don't do this sport lol.
