All I found was theyre halting diesel production for the heavy duty trucks. She must've got part of the story. Sorry guys.

I live close to where they make Rangers. The plant is scheduled to close early next year I think. Ford laid off a lot of employees this past year and then hired some back at a reduced salary.

The Ranger is done after this year and Ford is closing the plant where the Ranger is made. Ford offers another version of the Ranger that they sell outside of North America but that truck wont be available here (pretty stupid, eh?)
I highly doubt Ford is going to stop making trucks. They still sell over 200,000 F-Series trucks a month. Its not as if construction companies and general contractors are going to switch to using hatchbacks just because fuel is $4+ a gallon.
Trucks are still going to be made, the automakers will merely be selling a lot fewer of them.

Ya, I was reading Mini Truckin, and they had a small peice about how Ford is closing there plant in Minnesota where they make the Ranger in 2009. And that they were tossing up the idea of making it in Thailand, but it wouldnt be cost effective, so there just stopping the Ranger in 2009

Thats ashame, I drove rangers forever. Bought one new in '06 too. It was a nice truck, 4x4, ex-cab, tow package, 4.0, 4:10's with posi. Then I had a baby 15 months ago. Since I refuse to drive the wifes civic, and was tired of having 4 cars around I traded in my '06 Ranger, and my old trusty 91 cherokee baby mover for the '08 Taco double cab 4x4. As much as I loved my Ranger, it has nothing on the Tacoma, from the ride to the roomyness the Tacoma wins. I know a lot of guys into Rangers that would love to have a real 4 door Ranger, not the wanna be 4 door I had. They make them overseas but refuse to bring them here. I guess the reasoning is the exploder sport trac. Oh well, I love the Toyota now so I could never really go back to the ranger again.

I have it on a reliable source that a F-100 is coming. Diesel too later. Direct Injection Turbo.

I've read the same things about the ranger. I guess the numbers aren't there to justify it. The F series truck has been the number 1 selling vehicle for a while. This year it dropped to 4th place. I doubt they will ever get rid of those trucks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they reworked the explorer to provide a bigger bed.
