I really dont mind drum brakes, but if they were really superior the rover would have them.

And the 4 Runner and other off road Toyota vehicles. It is the only Toyota vehicle with crawl control and drum brakes.

You know, I would be more impressed if the truck dug tself out and drove up hill......it is going down hill when leaving the sand. So as long as you have gravity work for you, I guess it works.

Gravity in this situation would have increased the pressure on the rear wheels, making them harder to dig out.

Exactly. My buddies kid got his one wheel drive go cart unstuck by using body modulation when it was buried to the axle going downhill. I'm going to start pulling parts off the Tacoma until it's light enough for the top half of my 180 lb. body to rock the truck out.

Weight usually helps, but I don't think weight is your friend in dry sand.

Agree. I think it's all about flotation in sand. This will probably work only in sand, not in snow or mud. It looks like a contrived situation that only works for surfers driving across a beach going up hill who were temporarily distracted by bikinis

I don't see this system moving mud or snow. Sand is used for traction so the tires will grip and move it. I doubt any other situation I can think of, will this work.

Yes. I wish one of the selections in crawl control was snow. It's omission among the terrain choices suggests than crawl control won't help much with snow.

Honestly, I think it's a pretty cool feature. Now that comes with some explaining.

It's cool that they gave it the technology to do it by itself. And it helps the people who buy the truck, who don't know how to drive off road, get out of tight situations. It's like the car that could parrallel park itself.. Cool feature, but if you can't do it yourself, you probably shouldn't be in a position where you need to use it. I don't like that I'm going to start finding more idiots out on forest roads because they want to show grandma how cool the truck is.

I just want to be able to get back and forth along the dirt mountain roads where I live. Probably chains, good tires, and 4 wheel drive will be enough, with the locker available as back up. But if all else fails, I like that I'll have crawl control to try. It will be an additional option. No matter how good a driver you are, off road or otherwise, there's no way you can on your own independently control each wheel. And that has to give an advantage when you're stuck.
