    whats your opinion on trans fluid service intervals,not what toyota says,i want to know how you maintain your truck and why.:D

    I maintain mine to the spec toyota says. Checked at the dealer after 100K miles. If I keep towing heavy it may be sooner. You have to understand the the engineers came up with the number for a reason, they didn't just arbitrarily pull it out of their asses.

    I drain/refill my manual transmission's gear lube at 24-month intervals. I'm an Old Guy so that's only about 20,000 miles. Moisture contamination isn't a big deal with the tranny but it is with the differential, which is why I'm under the truck playing with
    $30 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75W-90. I do 'em together. Now and then the amount of grunge on the magnet is surprising.

    had a GMC -- interval on tranny was 60K I had it flushed at 27K. The oil looked like used motor oil. I think they want their trucks to look like they have low owner cost (low maintance). I had mine flushed by the dealer. Bought my Tacoma used so I wanted to make sure I cover myself if past owner towed enough to make a diff. Aside from GMC I've seen other manufacturers claim numbers that IMO are not kosher.

    like i already told you...100k complete flush cause toyota says so! opinion is that if that is what they recommend, then its good!

    my mechanic recommended I flush and change at 50 K because of all the miles I put on it -
    51k in less than two years
    I did a complete change - tranny.transfer case and differential
    also did cooling system because I live in so cal and drive to the mountains
    overkill, don't know but i have always got great life out of my trucks - 150k - 220k - w/o major problems - and we're talking dodge and ford in the past
