So recently I noticed my differential was leaking, took it to the shop to get replaced and it was the pinion seal for sure and so they replaced it and cleaned everything up and refilled it and noticed the pumpkin seal was leaking. They said my driveshaft was too short and it basically was pulling on it and that's what caused the seal to go bad. In the rear I have a 4" block that is tapered and it has no driveshaft vibrations or any issues. Any idea what to do? They said I basically need a custom driveshaft that's longer to prevent this but there are thousand of Tacoma's with that amount of lift or more in the rear and not this issue any info would be awesome!

How many miles are on your truck? Seals do go bad and start leaking from use and time. And I may be wrong but I would think if the shaft was too short you would have issues with the slip yoke coming apart or causing a vibration.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about vibrations or the yoke. I haven't dropped the carrier bearing or anything and didn't have any vibrations. It has 131k miles and my rear tires are out of balance really bad and I took a road trip and it started leaking the week I got back so I didn't know if maybe that had an effect on it. She said even after the replace both seals it'll happen again because my driveshaft is too short which doesn't make sense to me

Former coach of the Cowboys on TV advertising Xtend enhancement. Could try that on your short drive shaft. He claims it works for him.

It may of been funny if I was in the mood to joke around but when my trucks been in the shop for 4 days to have 3 hours or work done and there's no other shop that can do it I don't feel like having people make dick jokes when I'm trying to figure it out.

Prerunner or 4x4? Just get a new one made to the proper length, it's cheap enough with a junkyard shaft

Tyler, I did not read that your truck was out of service for 4 days in your first post and can understand why you were in no mood for jokes.

I do not know where in Mississippi you are but you may need a second opinion if that is an option.
Either way, good luck in getting your problem solved soon.

HID LED and LED lights everywhere and a 30" light bar in the bottom grille.
PSU has a good point. There are people that can make drive shafts to the length you need it. Your automotive shop should be able to find one, and if not then find another shop who can lead you or put you in the right direction.

Custom driveshaft would be nice. I hear Stan's powertrain in Gulfport is the place around here. I think there is also a shop in Jackson but I haven't heard anything about them. Other than that a 4crawler spacer will be cheap and easy. If you can measure to see how far it is pulled out simple order that size spacer. Shouldn't be too much though considering the blocks are tapered. My 4" springs required a 1" spacer and when I added a 3" block it stayed the same with the 1" spacer.

thinking about this, the spacer may be the way to go. It will be cheaper to get a spacer, but it also depends on how long it takes to get the spacer to the shop.

My spacer took a week to get here and took 10 minutes to install
