Push the ECT (electronically controlled transmission) button and I bet the driving experience will be MUCH better as far as power response and delivery. I have it on my 2000 4runner, and I leave ECT on all the time. Glad they brought it back, I guess. Appease gas mileage seekers with it off, and get the response back for people who don't care with it on.

With ETC off the 1st half of the throttle pedal is lack luster in throttle response. 2nd half gets it done much better.

Will mess more with ETC tomorrow.

I'm going to drive a drywall screw through the middle of the button so it can never be turned off.

I don't think it will be that soon. I have been having issues with my dealership. I went through a friend of the family, who was amazing, until I put a deposit down, now I can't get any information. Another dealership actually told me a build date for a truck that was the same as mine, not sure if it was mine or not, but the build date was Sept 10 and it takes about 4 weeks by train for them to get to us. I would say beginning of October at the earliest, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am wrong!

Engine cylinder deactivation/activation systems give me anxiety. Glad it has not come to that in the Tacoma.

My 2009 dodge ram 4x4 with a hemi has not had a problem with the deactivation/activation system. Gas milage still sucks in town. Does well on the highway.

overall they have gotten better over the years, but K.I.S.S. is still preferred.

any reason to NOT shut it off other than maybe mpg taking a small hit? does it go off on it's
own when you turn the truck off?

hehe, if you worried about the MPG hit, then forget the 2016 and get a 2015 w/o the ECT button and MPG hit. but then again that extra 1mpg for the 2016 and that ECT should be about the same MPG then. its a wash :)

dam, did I just ramble on and on. must be old an cynical :)

    If I didn't want the 2016, I'd keep my 2011 :) I'm interested in the ECT features/proper use(if there is any)

Some guys that use the ect in first gens get better mpg. All depends on driving style and how much will power you have to keep you foot out of it. It allows you to get to cruising speed faster where the truck can use overdrive for optimal mpg.
