My dad ran car dealerships for 30 years and owned a Ford Dealership for some time. If you know how to work and when to work a deal you can save some cash...in this particular case maybe a couple of grand in the long run...but if you "have to have it now" you will always be at a slight disadvantage as a buyer and the seller will have the upper hand. A good deal is one where both parties are satisfied at the end of the day.

^This. If you are happy with your purchase and you think you got a great deal. Enjoy it.

Someone will always be able to get a better deal than you. Its just how the game works.

Always amusing to watch folks get caught up over $1000 or $500 when you're talking about a 35k or 40k vehicle purchase.

    Why?

Everybody wants to feel like they got a good deal, even if they didn't. There are people who will literally sit in your chair for an hour to save $20 of a multi-thousand dollar sale, it sure doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not the one spending the money.

Wow! 6.25 total in MA. But, we pay on the book value if it's a private party sale. They do that to get around people writing $500 on a bill of sale when they actually paid $15,000.

I think NY does that now also. Years ago in NYS if you had a trade in you only paid sales tax on the differnce between the tradein amount and what you paid for new vechile but that got changed some years ago I believe, I have not bought a new truck using a tradein in 20 years or so. It all adds up, buy a 40,000 dollar truck with a 30,000 dollar tradein you use to only pay tax on 10,000 dollars but now ya pay tax on the 40,000 even with the tradein. At 8.75% tax that hurts.

Oh, ours is still that way--we only pay on the difference of the trade if it's purchased from a dealer.

What about here in Quebec, with federal and provincial taxes combined gives 15%... That doesn't hurt, it kills...

To give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside, I'd go in and say that if they get the OTD price under 40k then you'll make the deal.

Change your dealing attitude, OTD is a sales tactic. Find the invoice price and deal to somewhere around that. Since it's new, you may be closer to MSRP instead of invoice, but it's what you pay to play on a new model. All the other fees are items which you have no control over and must be paid. Unless you are in TX in which case they also try to screw you over with a Documentation fee that is essentially a fee to do their job and do the actual sale paperwork. The Doc fee is not a state mandated fee and is only for padding the dealer's pocket. It can be negotiated out.

Also, TX sales tax on vehicles is 6.25%, the extra local 2% that goes onto everything else is not levied on vehicles.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Sorry, am I the only one who read "orange stitching on the dash?"

Sounds like you are getting a TRD Pro from previous years without the added TRD pro set up. In fact, it's the same price as a 2015 TRD Pro would be.
