I'm sorry if this isn't where this belongs. I tried searching for an answer, but I couldn't really find one. Anyhoo
I have a 2014 Tacoma, barely 29k miles on it. Went to Rausch Creek, had a blast, came home, and now I have this weird clunk noise when I go over bumps. I checked everything, bumper, winch, coil overs, the whole 9 yards to make sure everything was secured to the truck. Even took off the skids to make sure it wasn't a small rock rolling around. After driving back and forth over a small bump for an hour with a mechanic friend listening, he said he thinks he knows what it is. He hasn't really worked on tacaomas much other than mine. I seem to have what he thinks is a lot of "play" on the CV axle closer to the front diff. It seems to flex up and down and clunks a bit. I swear its something in the rear end, but he seems to think otherwise. I never had a reason to check it before, so I don't know what is normal. So in process of elimination the question arises- Do you guys have any sort of vertical play or flex in the CV axle? I know with lifts they generally wear a bit faster and possibly bend, but the toytec coilovers aren't set near full height. The axle is damn near straight. If any one has any other suggestions as to what to check, I am open to suggestions.

I have a little play in both cv's it's normal ish. Lol. But clunk over bumps could be your LCA cam bolts or brake calipers moving.

I never checked the cam bolts. I'll look at those tonight. We thought the calipers too, but it did it while I was pressing in the brake as well. Which, please let me know if I am wrong, would rule that out? Because it would tighten when pressed and not be loose enough to clunk?

Well they move a bit when you press and depress the brakes. And if you're 4wd just torque the cam bolts to 100 ft lbs and see if the noise goes away. Make sure to jack up the truck when you do so.

To be quite honest no. Either I have gotten used to the noise and now instantly block it out, or it has gone away on its own. I checked the cam bolts like some suggested and they were all tight. Sorry I know that isn't much help.
