I'm one of those first-time truck buyers. I took both the Canyon and the Colorado out for test drives, and I will say, I was pretty impressed with all but one thing: the engine and transmission. It's the same issues that have come up on their discussion boards. Also, I have no issue with the Tacoma, and don't think it is more "offered-ish" necessarily. I think it is much better styled.

That has always been one of difference makers in Tacos vs Chevy, Ford and Dodge midsize trucks...the engines and the transmission. That's why there was just Taco And Nissan left...they had the best engines and transmissions.

This is why I won't buy a GM Twin.

GM Agrees to Settle Ignition Switch Probe

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/gm-agrees-to-pay-900m-us-to-settle-ignition-switch-probe-1.3231785
    To recap the news article:
    1. GM was willing to risk the lives of their customers just so that they could avoid fixing a part that cost less than a dollar.
    2. GM's failure to replace that part cost the lives of innocent people.
    3. GM is willing to pay close to a billion dollars to avoid criminal prosecution.
Ask yourself "Is this a corporation with who I want to do business or should I buy my next truck from some other company?"

    F*ck you GM.

    Rant over.

I take mine on the beach for two weeks each year. I lock it just before I hit the beach. I do try to lock it every month or so to keep the actuator working.

This only settles the cases that happened after the 2009 bankruptcy. new GM isn't liable for deaths caused by old GM, which died in 2008. Stay classy GM.
