    That's what I just did and set the extra at $70. My wife is going to have to adjust hers now too. I think she claimed married and 1 with no extra out; but I was still in school then so it was fine.

    When I retired from active duty, on top of losing the boys as deductions, it took us 4 years to get our deductions straight to where we only have to send them less than $1000 and not have any penalties added on. First year we had to send in almost $6000 on top of what was deducted. It was frustrating to put it mildly. Didn't help that as I got the amount adjusted each year, it seemed like they kept changing tax stuff and moving our target ... and not in a beneficial to us direction. o_O

    I'll find out in a couple years if we end up in that same boat or not... I guess I have been slightly spoiled in coming from a low income family so they never had to do much for W4's and such and being a college student the last several years I haven't had to do much either.

    x2 Took me a couple of years, too. Was a student for two years and then started working and having to pay state income tax :mad:

    Definitely have your wife change to single and "0". If you get too much back, you can adjust. I'd rather get a refund than to have to pay.

    Good advice there @BradyT88 ; we were fortunate to have the resources that it didn't hurt too bad. Still a bit of a shock paying that much when we'd been used to getting refunds every year. A lot of active duty pay allowances weren't taxable ... it was a bit of an adjustment for us.

    Yeah. Same here. I honestly don't think I have ever paid taxes before. I've never made enough income to have since most military school benefits are not listed as income and are tax free and while I was deployed my military income was also tax free.
