Got my truck TST'd at the dealer. Rustproofing, Paint stuff, and interior protection etc......
Not real exciting, but protected for winter.

I completed installation of a permanent mount and power supply for my DeLorme InReach Explorer. Details of the installation are on my build page here.

I've been looking into getting a handheld/vehicle mounted GPS for a while now. Why did you go with this? Strengths and weaknesses?

I chose this mostly for the text messaging and SOS feature. I needed some way to stay in communication with my wife when I'm in the back-country and away from cell coverage. I do several solo trips throughout the year.

Anyway, this device, for a modest monthly fee, gives me text messaging capabilities through communicaton with Iridium satellites. But more importantly, it has an SOS feature that if I find myself in an emergency, I can press the button. By doing so, it pings my latitude and longitude coordinates to a central communications center that will stay in contact with me via text messaging until Search and Rescue show up. It's really great peace of mind.

An added benefit is that it will communicate with my iPad via Blu-Tooth and will serve as a GPS unit to provide the iPad my location. I then use MotionX HD GPS as a mapping program. I plan on doing a post regarding my use of the hardware and map in the near future.

    Yes.
I should add one of these to go with the several hundred watts of HF, VHF and UHF transmitters I've got in the truck already. One more way to get help if necessary.

I retired today so I added a 2013 head unit to my 2011 access cab, added the Bluetooth microphone and back up camera conversion to the touch display. Installed new Gentex mirror with compass and temperature display. And also added cruise control, intermittent wipers, 2 USB charging ports. What a great day.
Tomorrow is the mirror conversion with power tilt, puddle lamps and heated. I want to thank all of you that posted threads to guide me through the additions that I have referenced quite often.

I planned to do this in steps but I was laid off today and had lots of time on my hands lol And I had all the info and parts so the install went very quick and the radio makes the 2011 interior a little classier lol. And then I decided to retire and enjoy my mods. Work helped me buy the parts so now I get to enjoy them retired. I have a few more mods to do that I have purchased over the last year. And thanks for the posts

I feel ya.. I went on a 1K mile family road trip in the Honda Pilot. First thing I did when I got home? "Honey, I need to go to the store!" Took the Taco out to get some fresh air.
