I believe I didn't explain myself...

I was asking if somebody has already tried to put the switches INSIDE the sunglass holder... Meaning that you will have to open the holder to access the switches...

Sometimes I have to leave my truck in valet parkings and those guys try always to see what happens with every switch, so if they are hidden its more difficult for them to go and play...

Ah gotcha. I think I saw in here or just recently, this one.....put inside the sunglasses holder. But inside would be pretty sweet. Only worry would be if there is enough room for the wires behind the panel and the roof.

It would be a challenge for the spring loaded mechanism to open with all of the wires packed on the rear of the holder. Not only the amount of wire but the tension of the wiring would not allow it to open imo.

 

I think so. Planning on pulling the headliner in the next couple of days anyway to see what kind of room there is.

 

I think if anyone can, you can. And, I do think there is room. The case holder will no doubt have to be cut. If some sort of box could be fit and fiberglassed inside the area for switch mounting it would be ideal.
Will take some finesse with the wiring to allow smooth movement. But again, I have no doubt you are the guy, Ive seen your work and it makes most look bad .

 

Great! that would be awesome!!! I was thinking of course that the case holder will have to be cut and that there would be some work with fiberglass or something so that there would be a mounting point...

You're using the dual color rockers? How did you get all the wiring to be so tightly packed in that bundle? Do you have a pic of it all wired under the switches ?

So @seattlesig also had some questions about my wiring. I'll try to briefly answer some questions here but I'm working on writing up a more detailed post in my build thread since a few of you guys have asked for a write up and how to. I wouldn't mind doing more harnesses for those that want them just realize that they will take some time to do.

So with my wiring I grabbed a bunch of OTRATTW switches, the Red/Red with the Lower LED Independent. A huge chunk of wiring, an @Iggy. switch panel and a few other little do-dads.

In regards to the wiring, this was the diagram that I used......

I wired all the ground, hot, and ignition, in series so that I didn't have to run double the wiring......like so...

The hot (red) wire, #2 on the diagram, went to the positive side of the battery to power the switch panel. Ground (green), #7 and #8 on the diagram, to the ground bus bar that is in the engine bay and hooked to the batteries. The white (ignition), #6 on the diagram, is currently wired to the positive side of things and is currently always illuminated and all the switch panels will be wired into another ignition based fuse in the near future. The wire to engage the accessory, #3 on the diagram, is then also measured and connected to the switch to be run with the rest of the bundle.

All the wiring is then concentrically wrapped, covered in shrink wrap, and run through the firewall. I pulled the OEM firewall boot away from the firewall, sprayed everything down with some electrical lube and run all of the harnesses that I built through the firewall.

 

Wow super detailed! What exactly is that thing in your engine bay? Like a bar for grounding? I hope your build will help me out so I can attempt this in the future!

Yeah a Busbar. A common point to ground an amount either positive or negative. More than likely I will use another one that will tie into the veh harness to power them and make them dim-able with the rest of the truck.

 

I know this is an old thread, but I'm resurrecting it because it is pertinent to my question.

I recently bought one of Iggy's switch panels, but what kind of switches fit into the plastic switch-holder? I bought a couple of switches like the 2-Gen kind that are to the left of the steering column, but they don't fit.

So what kind of switches do fit and what is a source?
