corolla or Civic

My wife is thinking of trading in her Xterra for a corolla or civic sedan.Both have good records in the past (from what i've known) and currently offer 2.9 APR on 2010 corollas and 2009 civics.Never owned any of these two compacts before and i thought ill ask which is more popular in TW members.personal experience and issues involving the Two cars pls do share.Thanks.

 

Corolla. Only because the civics are FUGLY. I think she'll be happy with either one. My GF drives a camry and one of our friends drives a newer civic. They are almost the same car.

My grandmother died with a corolla. 1997 with well over 200,000 miles. It was on it's 2nd paint job. She never had a lick of trouble.

 

Either one is a good vehicle. This is a Toyota forum though. So Corolla FTW!!

 

I traded in my civic recently, it was on 07. I LOVED the car and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I havent had any experiences with the corrolla, except test driving it with my mom (who wanted to get one) and it was pretty nice too, but of course my review of that is limited.

PS. I didnt trade in the civic bc it had any problems, just needed a car to better suit my lifestyle and needs.

NOOO! get the civic!! the car handles great, great MPG's, lots of nice interior features, I down right HATE the Corolla...as much as I like Toyota products, I put the Corolla at the bottom of Toyota's list, even below the Prius, and I hate that car too. Honda makes great cars, just not trucks...

Thank you very much for all the inputs gentlemen.She decided on a corolla and it looks like she is happy with it.both cars are neck and neck on comparison and we all know there is a reason why they are there on the top list.nonetheless i am very happy we are off the xterra since in all angles it was a bad investment for us.i have realized that a compact car is not all that bad after all, different tools for different chores.if it does the job its good.Amazing how it can save some money on an ordinary middle class income family.Now i can buy my 2 YO some toys in such small savings and dont waste it on an extra V6 That sucks gas(thats my tacos job)LOL. just a thought i wanna mention.Its a good feeling to have knowing that whenever i wanna trade in either of my cars, i know that the good hard earned money we paid for the financing will not go to waste paying for the monthly car payments.Just thinking out loud.Sorry for the slight rant.

 

Putting aesthetics aside, this isn't even a contest: The Civic. Honda's sedans/coupes are absolutely ahead of Toyota's offerings right now.

My parents purchased a new Accord back in June. I helped my mother car shop, and she cross drove a lot of Hondas/Toyotas, including Civics/Accords/CR-Vs and Corollas/Camrys/RAV-4s.

Smooth ride and responsive handling were the #1 factor, because she has some arthritis conditions that make rough riding vehicles very uncomfortable for her (both of my vehicles are agonizing for her).

All in all, Honda's sedans/coupes are just head of Toyota's right now in the responsiveness and comfortable ride categories. The handling is tighter and more responsive. The Hondas feel more solidly built.

I love my Matrix for its utility, but if I were shopping for another daily driver right now, it'd almost assuredly be a Fit. The Civic would've been my first choice if they still offered it in a hatchback/wagon config.

If you have to choose between those two, the Civic is DEFINITELY the stronger contender.

 

true jandrews.I believe you.If im to choose personally i will go the civic route but also basing on the trim comparable model, the civic is more expensive than the corolla.Toyotas make the best out there if not its goona be close to the best but 1500 to 1800 dollars difference is such a big factor.The EX civic more expensive than a comparable model(Corolla S) by that amount on MSRP.

 

Very true, Honda does command a slight price premium, which is to be considered.

Don't get me wrong - Corolla is a fine car for its segment and will give you hundreds of thousands of miles of trouble free service if well cared for. I'm just saying all other things being equal (which they never are) I'd go with the Civic. Anyway, upon further reading it seems you've made your decision. Hope the Corolla treats you well

 

I really enjoyed my Accord. Too bad it just wasn't practical for me.

 

Tag-teamed a road trip to NOVA with Mom a month ago (about 6 hours one way)and we took her Accord. I have to say it's a very enjoyable car to drive. Throttle responds well, handling is tight, ride is more luxurious than you would expect for a non-premium nameplate.

You are low as hell to the ground though. Even my Matrix doesn't sit that low.

 

Only dropped an inch on Eibach springs. It's more of an optical illusion. This is how they should sit coming out of the factory. The stockers look like 4x4s.

Heh, no I meant in her Accord. I was surprised how low the vehicle sits from factory. I wasn't talking about yours specifically. Sorry about the confusion.
