First off I'll say I've seen some pretty bad window replacements in my line of work. This one takes the cake.

But secondly and more importantly may (and most likely is) the damage you don't see. They most likely used a hot knife, and judging by the outside damage I can almost guarantee they cut the metal along the pinch weld/window opening. This is a common occurrence, but the question is wether or no they did anything to fix it. We've had cars come in and the windshields looks great but the whole front edge of the roof is rusting because they cut the pinch weld and never repaired it. I would suggest having another party cut out your windshield and inspect the opening before reinstalling the glass.

If you brought this to the attention of your insurance company I'm sure they would pay for the extra work to prevent the added repairs that may be necessary in the future. But whatever you do I wish you luck! That is in fact a true hack job

Wow. I don't know how well I would be able to contain my fury! USAA always does people right...might take a bit longer to fix, but in the long run they always make things right. Good luck!

That's horrendous! Regardless of how many miles I'd lose my mind, but on a 2500 mile truck I would really freak out.

Makes my irritations with my local dealer this week seem small.

Its a tacoma not a Ferrari, like others have said, the windshield is not even necessary, a good bike helmet with a visor is all the OP needs...

Op, id get this thing fixed and traded in, the savagery in those pictures would be make me never look at the truck the same again...

I just had mine replaced by Safelite, had it done in the parking lot while I was having lunch at the diner. The guy did an excellent job, not only was my truck spotless when he finished, he was on time, called ahead to keep me up dated on his schedule, and when done I couldn't even tell he had replaced it, it was perfect. If I had come out and my truck looked like that......LOL, I would have been livid. Sorry you are having to go through that, hope it works out.

    Hold on. I got it!
Jack the RIPPER, hired Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles ( no offense) to replace your windshield.

And honestly I think those two dudes could have done a better job.
My dog could have done a better job. And he doesn't do windows!
Hope you get compensation man, as mentioned above go for the new dash.

    Update:

Owner of the company called me this morning, he's completely embarrassed by what this jackass did. The guy got fired, and the owner won't let a single one of his employees touch my truck. He's going to personally give me another windshield and get me a brand new dash and panels inside too. He's also giving me a rental car to use while it's in his hands. I'm fine with this because as a business owner you can't always prevent some incompetent shit (whom previously worked for safelite) fucking up. He's never seen this kind of damage before and I am willing to let him save face. My parents and my In Laws are business owners and I fully understand when an employee does something stupid.

He is trying to do the right thing, which I respect. I will not go back to them in the future, but at least he's doing the right thing. Everyone under him is lame, and he just heard of and saw the damage yesterday (6 days later) for the first time. I'm sure there will be some changes there after all of this.

I'm not so sure I'd let him have my truck again. I believe I would politely tell him the truck is going to be repaired at the Toyota dealership.

Well I would say give him a shot. I don't see how they could screw it up any worse.

    Good for him.

I'd still report the situation with BBB and Yelp and with Safelite, including the full story that the guy was fired, owner took it as a personal project and it was (hopefully) fixed with new parts - as it should be.

If you end up having someone else do it and him pay the bill (I would go this way most likely), be sure to mention he was willing to do what it needed, but you weren't comfortable.

Although I would be livid and probably go postal if this happened to my vehicle - no matter how new or old it is, I admire you for giving the business owner a chance to make it right. That's very gracious of you, IMO.

As Someone who runs a business too, you're right, we can't always prevent every dumb thing that our employees do. We can't monitor everything and there are a lot of morons out there, but we can work hard to make it right when a problem is brought to our attention. Hopefully, he will.

That's good to hear. As the business owner I think this is the most that he can do. Not to say everything was out of his hands, but it would be extremely hard for him to know any better. If they are dong the work I would suggest going down there and inspecting the pinch weld yourself after the glass is removed.

My only concern is you said he's doing the work himself and he's replacing the dash? This is a bit of a bigger job and can easily lead to several other small problems down the road if not done correctly.

But I believe you're doing the right thing allowing him to make it right. As shitty as it is that this happened to your truck I don't think you need to continue with the bbb. The business owner is doing his best to make it right and prevent this from happening again by firing the incompetent employee. Just my .02 cents, best of luck with the repairs

I understand the concept of letting the business owner make it right. And probably would agree if it was only a bad windshield install.
But there is dashboard and trim replacement necessary. Not sure the glass company owner is expertly experienced to do that.
So its to the dealer for me.
