    ok, this is about as basic as it gets right...lol sorry but how do you find out what is wrong when the truck is too old to have the plug in for the tester?

    lol....I like your signature, as far as your question is concerned I don't know and I hope someone will chime in on that. But have you checked basic things like your oil level, radiator fluid level, etc?

    you know it came on right after i added some antifreeze to the overflow res. could that be the issue?

    All 1996+ model has the OBDII protocol, check the link I provided above. OP, I don't think adding antifreeze would cause the CEL, could be just a coincidence. Maybe have someone with a code reader pull the codes for you and then you can post them up here.

    oh 96 and newer?!?! right on, i feel dumb now lol i just bought it and assumed it didnt have one:smack:

    If it was low and then caused your engine to overheat than maybe yes. I'm not sure why it would go off just because you added some antifreeze to it, I have never heard of that before. You may want to recheck it again though.

    just thought if it had too much coolent in it maybe ,but it has an overflow relief for that very reason so no way is it that. oh well autozone will check codes for free so no worries. im guessing just a egr or something. funny it came on a week after i buy it though, and my dome light stopped working to around the same time.............hmmmmmm
