Hydrolocked my Taco :(

Just thought I would share with you one of my dumbest moments in my life..... A week ago today I parked my Taco in a questionable spot.... long story short when i got back from the bar and got to my truck water was up to bottom of the door (about 3').... so i started my truck and tried to drive it out.... bad idea i guess.... I got water in my intake and it sucked it right into my engine..... called USAA had it towed to the dealership.... im out to sea right now but my bill is looking like 6 grand right now.... yea i broke the crap out of it this time.... new engine for sure.... just thought you all might want a good laugh....

 

what kind of parking spot was this... on the beach before tide? can the people who have the parkinga spot be responsible

 

something you may have taking care of yourself..

take each spark plug out and crank the motor over a few times..that usually will "blow out" the water that's trapped in each cylinder, keep that in mind for a quick trail fix if hydrolock happens when fording a water crossing

how though. this doesn't make since to me. im sorry bout the truck but if the water was only up to the doors that isnt anywhere close to the intake

 

well i parked it in a culdesac and apparently the huge lake behind the trees that blocked the view of it rose about 18ft in 3 hrs lmao..... yea its just money i dont really care.... but a thousand dollar deductable kind of bites... thanks for the encouragement though.... and yea cant wait to deploy again in JAN..... this will be my second deployment on the big nasty cant wait to go to shore duty!

 

those are my thoughts exactly..... im not sure how the hell it did that..... but i was a little buzzed trying to go to taco bell after the bar and that totally ruined my night...

maybe it aint hydrolocked. because the water would have to be really really high up to do that. i went mudding yesterday went thru a hole and the water came up to my hood scoop i was scared but nothing was in the air filter no water marks or nothin.

 

no no no i wasnt going to drive.... we pulled up and i saw the water halfway up my truck so i had to try and move it before we left..... and i still do not know how the hell it managed to hydro lock it.... i just dont know.... I pulled the air box off and water just poured out.... i was like .... looking back it was kind of funny.... i wish i could have seen my reaction.....

 

OH OK, yeah that blows but it was probably way higher before you came out and saw it. It was probably a really bad idea to try to start it but how the hell are you supposed to know. Maybe the deeper they look you can get a new Tacoma out of the insurance company.

 

ha wouldnt that be great..... but oh well this truck has been a beast up until this point.... plus i would hate to have to rewire all the mods i have in this thing..... god wouldnt that be a pain in the ass...

 

I once woke up after a hard night out and found a half eaten burrito AND a large turd stuck on my windshield.

My uncle has an O-L-D Diesel Hilux, and we have hydrolocked it numerous times... Standard Procedure
-Swear
-Pull Injectors
-Full Throttle and Crank!
It should be similar with your truck, anyways sorry man, bet it was a total buzz kill.

 

usually a loud WTF??!!!!!!!! Is first on my list. That's my standard procedure.

 

if your exhaust was under water when you started it there is a possibility you can mess it up that way. ive never actually heard of it happening but i was warned it was possible. just a thought.

If water poured out of your airbox like that - then a lot of water could've got into any one of the cylinders. When you try to start it (crank it over), it would've bent a rod.

You can save a hydrolocked engine after it 'stalls' from minor amounts of water in the cylinders. But if you get a lot of water in there... water doesn't compress.

Is your insurance gonna cover it?
