Figure out exactly what you want first, make an itemized list, then call the nearest 6 dealers to where you live. Tell them exactly what you want and say you are looking for their best quote, and have 5 other dealers working up a quote on the same thing as we speak. They will tell you they will call back within an hour or so. Proceed to sit back in the comfort of your livimg room, and wait for the calls to come rolling in. No games this way, and you'll get their best quote right off the bat no hassle.

I got my 13' ordered while they were just hitting the lots and still had left over 12's at $500 inder invoice this way, paying 80% cash upfront with no trade.

If the dealer isn't willing to come down, and I can't get the local dealers into a war for my money, is it reasonable/realistic to ask them to come down on APR? I don't care much about the purchase price; I care about the monthly.

Pretty sure APR is determined by your credit.

Sure. But if they say "You have excellent credit! Your APR is 2.4%!" will they budge down to 1.x% or whatever to meet my preferred monthly?

    P.S.
    Hypothetical numbers.

The dealer isn't determining your APR. The creditor determines your APR. Even Toyota Financial isn't at the whim of the dealer for APR adjustments.

The dealer doesn't determine your APR, your credit does. The dealer does make some money on APR unless offered directly from the manufacturer (ie: .09% for 48 months TMCC only). When they offer 2.99% (that offer includes their cut) and you happen to be pre-approved for 1.99 from your bank, why do you think they can match or beat it?

I have no idea how you Americans get such great bank financing. Here, the best thifty people I know with amazing credit can only get MAYBE 2.99-4% interest car loans from a bank. From Toyota, or almost any other manufacturers credit, the rate is always better in Canada.

Our great rates are subsidized by our health insurance cost.

I noticed the Toy dealers in OK/KS for the first batch appear to have either gotten 1 Taco or 6. VIN numbers in the low 1,000 series.

pretty good advice - except talk to the fleet manager if they have one, not the internet sales. also, ask them to send you a copy of the invoice... think in terms of how much over their cost you're paying, and what you're comfortable with. never think in terms of how much off of msrp... and find the vehicle they have before you call - tell them specifically which vehicle you want and ask them the price. do NOT ask them to go through their stock looking for one for you, that is not how the fleet department works.

personally if i was buying one i'd wait at least a few months until they get their inventory up to normal numbers... you'll be in a much better position. you're crazy buying one right now unless you really need it now.

they certainly don't necessarily pass on any savings... yes - it takes away a whole group of jobs, and therefore economic activity, taxes, jobs, etc. to the community, government, etc. That's why so many of those people don't like their business model.

Because the Fed has the bank lending rate at zero. Anyone with a good credit rating should be able to get <2% right now without regard to purchase price. All components of a vehicle purchase should be negotiated separately. Dealers try to get you focused on the monthly payment for a reason. When they start playing that game with me I prepare to walk.

Didn't the Fed just raise interest rates?

No! Costco is a nice place to shop. Sam's Club is a giant walmart that you have to pay to get into. Gross

I'm not sure how all of the people on here that talk about getting fleet deals are getting them. At all the dealers around here unless you are representing a business and have a GST number you aren't going to get fleet pricing. Maybe it's different at more desperate dealers. When I place an order for work it goes through a fleet sales person, but when I walk in personally I get a salesman. I still get the same deal either way. Most people will too as long as they are educated about the pricing on the vehicle they are looking at.

Actually, the one thing that never gets mentioned, if you work for a large company look into if you can get pricing through them. I know for my company we get invoice plus 0.5% from GM, Ford, Ram, and Toyota if we want to buy a car that way.
