I know I'm the new guy here and I probably shouldn't post a first thread to be negative, but I am.

I'm just disappointed I can't get the truck I want.

    I want:
double cab - I have a little boy. This will be my daily driver.
long bed (6 foot) - because I do use my truck as a truck, hauling lumber, gravel, mulch, etc.
manual transmission - because I like driving a manual
V6 - because I want to get out of my own way.

I would be willing to compromise on a lot of other things, including 4x2 vs 4x4, colors, trim levels, etc....but these are really the must haves.

I've contemplated if I would compromise the manual transmission or the long bed and I think it would have to be the manual transmission. Having a short bed would mean I would need to get a trailer. if I have to get a trailer, I might as well keep the wagon I have now and attach a trailer to that.
    I dunno.
I just figured I'd post this in case anyone at Toyota corporate was listening.

That certainly is a bummer, V. If you make a compromise, I hope it works out for you in the long and short term. Best of luck!

Buy a DCSB MT and a DCLB AT. Then hire a shop to swap the tranny. Sell the first truck. Foolproof plan! ;)

Eh, just buy the automatic. The manual versus automatic appears to be a pride issue more than anything else.

I once swore I would never own an automatic transmission. Until, you know, I bought an automatic. ;)

Go with the AT. Put it in gear and forget about it. It is my understanding that 90 percent of the tacomas they make will be short beds. Also most of the long beds will be AT. You may have to wait a while to get the exact truck configuration you want

It's been a long-standing issue with Toyota for those of us who want a DCLB with a manual tranny. Just hasn't ever been offered. I am unaware of any swaps cause few people are willing to chop up a warrantied $37k truck. I want a DCLB and would prefer a stick shift but I have finally accepted it won't be a possibility. My last traffic jam in Denver with my current Tacoma stick shift reminded me an auto might not be so bad.

Hell, I wish my Reg Cab 4x4 had a 4.0 in it, but I bought it anyway...and love it. They just don't build one to please everybody.

    Not really.

While I kinda like my long bed, truth is, for what you describe, the short bed should work just fine. If you haul long lumber, you'd want a hitch mounted bed extender for either bed.

If you frequently haul large amounts of gravel, you'll need a real truck anyway, not a weakly sprung Tacoma.

complain to toyota and maybe they'll do a TRD-pro DCLB MT and sell it for 49k.

At some point you'll likely have to buy an automatic anyways. Few cars in the US have them.
Does Canada make a Manual trans with a long bed? Youll probably pay out the butt in taxes if they do though.
    Just go automatic IMO.

The attitude presented by posters here is part of why manuals are nearly extinct.

Toyota builds what sells. I wonder how long standards sit on the lot vs autos.
