Orland Toyota in Tinley park IL had a 2016 SR Access Cab, 2.7, power everything & backup camera stickered at $22,500

The 2016 feels & looks much differently than the 2nd Gen. Tailgate is more beefy, deeper bed, the hood is longer, 2.7 sounds the same, 6 speed shifts pretty smooth, the truck is noticeably quieter than the 2nd Gen. Interior feels & looks more updated/nicer.

Overall pretty impressed, I am thinking of buying it as I need a pickup for work alongside my van.

Did you drive it on the highway and how easily did it cruise ? Please talk more about the actual driving experience.

Did it feel like you were struggling to get up to a decent speed at all? Do you feel like the 2.7 would be okay for around town and speeds under 55, occasional freeway use (65 MPH), along with a road trip maybe once a year?

No way! If you are even considering a run to the store it must be equipped with a lift kit, giant tires, super charger, sliders, custom grille, $1000 light bars, custom wheels, leather heated seat covers, and an excursion style roof rack. God knows that they barely run, much less drive without all these items. My 2015 barely made it home from the dealership.
All joking aside, a 4 banger will do everything and more if you just take care of it. For a grocery getter that hits the highway a few times a year, it sounds like a great choice.

I'm currently in a 2000 Honda CRV which has the 146hp 2.0L 4 banger with a weight of 3,150. It handles all my needs decently for the most part.
Now a Tacoma will be about 900 pounds more if I go with the 2.7 4x4 (Might be moving to somewhere with a real winter so 4x4 is probably a good idea to have). Guess I'll see when my dealer gets some in and I test drive them.

*1100 lbs more. The spec sheet for the 2016 says the 4x4 2.7 access cab is 4220 lbs with the auto trans and 4195 lbs with the manual trans.

That said, the tacoma engine probably has double to torque than your CRV engine which in typical honda fashion probably has no low end torque. So that is something to take into consideration. Truck engines drive differently than high revving small 4 cylinder car engines.

I was just estimating the weight as I had forgot the exact number on the Tacoma.
Thanks for your insights on the torque as I didn't take that into consideration.

Why are you trading in a new Colorado?

Wow, sounds like my experience with one of the local Ford dealerships. Nothing like the feeling of realizing you made an expensive mistake.

So, went back to the dealer today.

    MSRP - $24,500

The best I could do was $500 off MSRP. I need another truck for work, gonna go back tomorrow & purchase.

$500 off on a new vehicle, first month, first year, is about average for Toyota.

Here in CA, I am special ordering a 4 cylinder - SR 5 and was told that max is 180 days but could be sooner. Dealer offered a $750 discount.

You might want to look into car buying services. Costco, I think is invoice plus $100. Certainly wouldn't hurt to check, if it saves you a couple of thousand dollars.

    I'm sorry, but what? Why?

Why don't you just buy from a different or further-away dealer? How "special" could your SR5 4cyl that it needs HALF A YEAR to get to your door. They make hundreds of thousands of these things. You'll find exactly what you want for less money and in less time.
