It seemed thicker to me. Yes we use a chain in ours

 

I would think it was thinner go lube all those links

 

CVT fluid would need to be pretty thick to resist shearing. Apparently there's a lot of high-pressure metal-to-metal stress in a CVT (which makes sense when you think about how it functions), and the fluid has to be pretty thick to handle it without shearing, foaming, or oxidizing.

I hear it's got a lot of wacky friction modifiers, too. Apparently the fluid is sticky/tacky at lower pressures/speeds and gets more and more slippery as they increase. Can't verify first hand or not, because I haven't been in the service game since CVT's in cars were a new idea (I jumped from retail to wholesale in '10), just what I've read and heard from friends in the industry.

Pours at -45* though. That's better than most snowmobile synthetic fluids. That's why I thought it was thin. Can still be tacky and be thin

Hey strangers ! Stopped in here after ordering a couple hubs. 135k on the silver bullet. I just retired from the FD and relocating to NH over the next year. Will be permanent after my senior finishes HS. On another note, Mary and I have been looking at some partially complete trail rigs. Hope all is well with everybody. Sorry to hear the bad news Rob. Any of you guys use the ECGS needle bearing fix ? I just ordered up

 

I did and it worked awesome. I just helped Mike do his also

Thanks good to know. I have vibes coming from many sources. Changing hubs , carrier support, ECGS bearing fix and front brakes while I'm at it.
