Yep ! They both have a place. Really fun in a Miata, a real PITA towing in hilly country. Autos though have opened up driving heavy equipment to a lot of people. Autos and power everything has opened bus driving to people who could not making handling safer in traffic. Driving larger SUVs is easier for smaller people and towing safely is enhanced. Maybe some never get injured but I have had my share and driving manuals with only three working appendages is no fun. Traffic ? I was a cop driving auto cruisers for ten years in traffic and on highways chasing people when my personal cars were manuals. It definitely changed my mind about controlling a car more safely in emergency maneuvers. We gradually worked over to autos and never looked back..... Motor cycles, some sporty compacts, sports cars, just don't seem right with out a manual.

Can some one confirm if you can buy a 2016 double cab 4x4 with a manual transmission with a long bed? You can't on a Gen 2 :(

    nope. DCLB is auto only.

There are 3 V6 MT Configs and 1 with the I4, all 4x4. V6 AC TRD sport, DCSB TRD-Sport, DCSB TRD-OR. And the AC SR I4 4x4 5 speed.

The flaw in your thinking is that you are using a personal preference for an AT as a reason to conclude that someone must not know how to drive a shift "properly". You have zero evidence for such an illogical conclusion. It would be just as logical for me to conclude that your preference for a manual means that you must not know how to drive an automatic "properly".

First post. I thought I would chime in after a test drive. I test drove a V6 4x4 Sport DC Manual and I really liked it. I'm coming from a 1994 V6 manual and I will probably order a OR DC manual v6.

I was not terribly impressed with the power, but it is plenty for me needs. It felt awkward reving above 4K, but once you do, the power is there. Shifting was smooth and behaved as expected. Basically, I really liked it because there was noting surprising about it. I liked the gearing, but 6th will only get limited use at 75mph cruising.

Were you able to compare the power delivery with an AT?

No. I knew I didn't want AT. The question was, did I even want to bother with new. I can see why others may not have liked the AT. If the shift points were set poorly, it would feel very under powered.

I probably won't get a 2016 until mid next year but it will definitely be a manual. What would you guys say the learning curve would be for someone with little to no experience driving manual?

You might be the first one on here to drive the manual! I wonder how it compares to 2nd gen, vs to your 1st gen.
    Odd looking knob though :|

Not hard at all if you don't mind getting questioned by a cop when you can't go up a 10 degree hill at a light. That's what I did, anyway, many years ago with my first truck...

(I was only stuck for a minute! Talk about bad timing when the copper was right behind me.)

My thought exactly about the supposedly improved shifting mechanism. Coming from a 2013 TRD OR AC MT, I'd say the shifting was iffy, even with a TRD shifter.

The shifter looks a bit outdated... Will definitely be one of the first cosmetic things I change, as well as custom leather seats eventually. I hope the manuals aren't slower to be produced, I want mine, now!

The evidence is sound. It is the "traffic" argument. If one who drives and prefers a manual says "traffic doesn't bother me, it's a second nature", but another says "I prefer manual, but the traffic is such I don't drive a manual anymore", then it is reasonable to conclude the skill of the latter leaves a lot to be desired.

I concede I may not be a most proficient automatic tranny driver. The right foot gymnastics and the rubbery feeling of the torque converter bother me a lot in traffic. In particular, I am not able to drive it two-footed, some people apparently can.
