Headlight clouding.......

What is the best product to use on my plastic headlight lenses to make them clear again. They are becoming pretty cloudy on my 2004 PreRunner.

 

Try using Meguiars Plastic X. Works really good with a nice buffer.

3m has a kit out, that you use with an electric household drill(not battery operated...not enough rpm's), and it works pretty well. you can find it at most auto parts stores.....around $30 or so.

plast-x works pretty good too, just doesnt last as long,especially if the lenses are bad.

 

Nothing I have used ever is as good as this stuff, nothing.... Because after you remove the oxidized plastic coating, they give you a sealer which is permanent and a LIFETIME warranty...

Look at the closeup pics of my headlights, they were cloudy and looked white. I refinished them with Crystal view in February. I used McGuires before that and it lasted for 2 months.... I used 3M, lasted for maybe 2 months. I tried Quixx, it lasted for 4-5 weeks....

Funny, I actually posted this question already. I went with what CA44 above recommended, cost $24 from Advance Auto. I haven't actually used it yet due to the fact that my truck is still at the dealer's waiting for a frame replacement. I'll let you know what I think of it when I finally use it, but I've read a bunch of posts about using other stuff and having the lense get cloudy within a few months, seems like this is the only proven "permanent" treatment.

 

I went to one of our local auto stores and bought a box of headlight clearing stuff..... and it worked pretty good on my Mother-in-laws Grand Cherokee.

I didn't research anything - just went out and bought it.

Technically, all you need to do is 'buff' the surface with a mild abrasive. But because this was plastic, its' not like you can use the same abrasive as you do on paint (atleast, I wouldn't think so). Or else I would've used something I already had around the house.

The Grand Cherokee is 11 years old and it might not have passed inspection without buffing the headlights. They were Aweful!! Now - we didn't spend a lot of time on it, a quick 10 minute buff job with the buffer and they were 100% better. We probably could've spent more time on it, but....again, the car is 11 years old. We really didn't care. These lights were already 100% better and it'll probably last longer than she'll have the car!

 

Well this weekend, I think it is time to try some of these products as well.

I was hoping to buy new headlights houses for HID, but i can not find the right Projector light set up. Also I want them for price i can handel..
With a 9003 head light you are limted i think...

x2 but get the whole it with the buffer attachment its like 19buks at wally world. It will do at least 5+ headlights...

 

Rear end somebody like I did!! only 500 bucks for me to get a brand new front end ha!

 

That's how I got new front and rear bumpers, tail lights, etc. I got smacked from behind.

 

I used the 3m kit on my gf PTCruiser and it took about an hour but the results we amazing and its been 2 months and they are still crystal clear.

 

Finally got my truck back, and did the headlights using the $24 kit from advance auto, and it looks incredible. My passenger side lense was so cloudy I didn't know there was anything inside, now it looks like new! definitley worth it, especially considering a used headlight assembly will cost about twice that, if not more.

 

Wet sand with a VERY high grit. and then use the Mother Plastic stuff

 

Good stuff huh? I told ya!!!! I think it's funny with all these guys using that other stuff that has no sealer and after a month or two it looks like crap again. I have been there, I learned.....
