    Ladies and gentlemen

I'm not going to close, delete or otherwise end this thread. It serves as a good example to those who don't have as much experience with such scams. I'm glad OP didn't end up losing his money...if you don't like the thread then feel free to unsub and move on

People get taken for similar scams daily, and it's up to the good people here to help protect those who may be taken for a ride. To those of you who helped OP...thank you

OP...glad you figured it out before they got you

That's 100% a scam. You're better off looking for other tacomas in your area.

Not to burst your bubble, but that's likely a scam or the truck has something really wrong with it. When I was hunting for my truck I found a couple double cabs like this going for ridiculously low prices and when I investigated them further I found out they were big time scams. These trucks are well worth 15k with that kind of mileage on them. Mine has 93k on it now but had 74k when I bought it and I paid 13.5k for it last November.

As far as your other questions, any first gen Tacoma from 1995-2004 is a little brute. These are some of the toughest most reliable trucks on the planet. If you take care of them, they will last you many long years. I had an 02 double cab come through the shop last week with 252k miles on the odometer, the guy had it since new and had never done a tuneup or anything to it, just brings it in for oil changes now and then. It fires up and runs like a watch still despite not being very closely maintained. We change his oil, but he's never came in for a transmission oil change or anything.
I would trade up the Jeep for a Tacoma in a heartbeat, not sounding biased but Jeep Patriots are piles. I hear all the time about how cheaply made they are and how bad they develop rattles and such over time. They probably run okay, but the build quality between them and Tacoma is night and day. My 04 Tacoma doesn't have a single rattle in it driving down bumpy roads at all and it's 11 years old! Not many 11 year old trucks can say that.
On average, I get anywhere between 15 and 18 mpg with my V6. Best I've ever seen is 21 but that was cruising slowly on the highway. I always do about 80 going down the road so my mileage has never been top notch, I like to get where I'm going, plenty of time to drive slow in the winter when it's snowy and icy out! ;)

The only thing to really watch out for in these as I'm sure others have mentioned is the frames. The frame is the Achilles heel of the first gen Tacoma. Luckily the 04's still are in warranty for replacement of a rusty frame as long as the truck is registered in a cold weather state and has previously had the rust treatment stuff applied to the frame at a dealership. That warranty will expire in 2019 so after that, no more frame replacements or buybacks will be given for any first gen Tacoma. So inspect that frame very closely! The spots where rust likes to hide on them most commonly is up by the catalytic converter and on the rear corners where the front leaf spring hangers mate to the frame. The frames rust from the inside out so you will need to take a hammer and gently tap on it or stick your finger or a flashlight in one of the holes in the frame a look around.
Another weak point in these trucks are the ball joints. If they are OEM joints (which they should be with 92k miles) they can last anywhere from 90k-180k miles before needing replacement. If they are aftermarket knockoffs, they wont last long at all. Just so you know, when a ball joint breaks, the whole tire on that left or right front wheel comes off and it can happen at any speed! Google Tacoma ball joint failure and you'll see what I mean.

I wish you the best of luck! Again, not trying to bring you down, but look really hard into that deal. I'd be very suspicious of a price like that. My rule of thumb is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Nope, but I did feel at liberty to give him an honest answer.
