Actually I was thinking that Dan Marino did a lot of the same things, at the same level Manning did. He was a pure pocket passer, he was one of the best at reading defenses and he called his own plays all the time. Marino did everything Manning did but in a different period of the NFL where passing was much harder. Manning, Brady etc. play in a time when the game is being changed to allow more offensive success.

Yes, Marino played in a much tougher NFL than Manning and Brady. Today's rules pat their stats and allow QBs like Russ Dilfer, er. . . I mean Wilson, to put up mediocre passing numbers.

Marino laid some of the groundwork for Manning's reinventing of the QB position, but Peyton took it a lot farther than Dan did.

 

So, guy does something at a hall of fame level, another guy does the same thing, possibly slightly better, in an easier system and that's called reinventing?

I wonder what this number would be in deceased soccer players, baseball players, basketball, rugby, fire fighters, golf, frisbee throwers, people who headbanged in the 80's and 90's. How many average people out there would have CTE?

 

If Manning had "reinvented and perfected" modern QB play, he wouldn't have "9 one-and-done" playoff appearances, the most playoff losses in NFL history, and would certainly have more rings than his shitstain brother...

Meanwhile....where's Kam Chancellor? The last I read they are a mere $900,000 apart in agreement. If Green Bay wins, I'd wager we see a deal.

Honestly, I doubt it, regardless of the Packer game.

He's already over 2M in the hole. He's in it for the long haul.

But Carroll & Schneider will NOT allow that precedent to be set...they simply cannot afford to, literally. The cap prevents it. Ownership is letting them put the franchise over ego and that's the right play for the Hawks long-term.

I fully support Kam's right to hold out though.

 

I think Kam will be back before week 10 but the Seahawks are done negotiating. Any deal he comes back to will be the deal that has been on the table for months. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them not waive the fines like they would have had he been back for the regular season. As of right now he's out 2 million, half of the money he was asking for.

It's the right move for the health of the franchise in the immediate (this year and next) and far (2-4 year) future.

 

It's not all about the numbers. If it were than Manning did it a lot better than Marino. Marino started it. Manning perfected it. No QB saw what Marino did in the 80s and early 90s and followed suit back then. Peyton had multiple coaches and QBs imitate and follow his study and approach to the position a decade ago. The term "pre-snap" read is synonymous with #18.

 

You're confusing coaching stats with QB stats. The QB is one position on a team.

Your logic is rather hilarious when you consider that Tommy Boy won three of his rings* as a game manager and is 1-2* as a starter in SBs since he copied Manning and became a big numbers coach-on-the-field type QB.

 

So did he perfect it, or did he reinvent it? I'll argue both... but you seem to be confused on the matter.

 

Perfected is probably the wrong word since it can always be improved, but yes, he did reinvent the position, took it farther than Marino, a lot farther.

The entire 2nd half is essentially going to be garbage time for the steelers to play around and rack up a few more TDs..
