i had a 09 TRD off road and I loved that truck. 95% of my driving is done on the road. I never used all the bells and whistles the TRD OR offered except traction control and 4WD. I do live in the North East and I HAVE to make it into work no matter what the weather condition is. even though I never used all the fancy buttons its still a nice piece of mind knowing that if I need it I have it.

I will be ordering a 2016 taco DCSB 6 speed Manual but im not sure what model to get. im sure the SR5 would be fine for me but im afraid ill regret my decision later on for not getting the OR. as far as doing aftermarket upgrades the most ill probably do is a leveling kit for the front. also the TRD OR holds a better resale value. I do some mild towing with a boat about 3500lbs.

the problem is ,is that no dealership around me even has them yet so I cant sit in them and really get a feel for what there like.
what do you guys suggest I do? F*** it and get the OR and have no regrets or save a couple bucks and get the SR5?

    The better coast
I would get the sr5 with the tow package.

Then if you ever decide you need a locker go after market b/c that will probably come out cheaper than the off-road package.

I ordered the off road. I do some off road driving and have gotten my 06 good and stuck so I want the locker and the traction control features. I also think that the off roads hold value better and I plan on reselling my truck to get a new one in a few years.

Where in NY are you? I live in Ithaca and haven't found a dealer anywhere in the state that has anything coming before mid October.

The 6spd manual is only available on the trd sport and the trd off road double cab w/ short wheelbase in 4wd. The SR5 models are auto tranny only. You'd have to get the SR with the 4cyl and 5spd to get a manual trans below that.

I live downstate in Putnam County. I find out tomorrow how long it will take to receive the truck after I place the order.

does the SR5 come with all the amenities that the OR has? meaning actual rims and not your basic steelies? the LED lights and fog lights? touchscreen, backup camera, etc?

wow I didn't know that. manual is a must for me so I guess the SR5 is out lol. now I have to figure out if I should get the sport or the OR. the sport makes more sense I guess because 95% of my driving is on the road. it has better road tires where the OR has more rugged tires correct? the sport has AUTO LSD right?

and what is really the difference between the suspension for the sport and OR? will the OR be that much more harsh driving on the street compared to the sport?

IF I needed a 4WD I would buy the OR...May as well get all the goodies that apply to better traction. Needing only a 2WD Street truck the Sport is more than enough to cut the mustard. Probably has stiffer suspension being a Sport for better handling. The OR would have softer suspension for Off Roading.

According to the spec sheets all of them have the same suspension, but the sport is "Sport tuned" and the OR is " Off-road tuned with Bilstein shocks". I assume the "Sport tuned" means it has stiffer sport shocks on it even though it doesn't specify exactly what "Sport tuned" means.

If there are anymore differences on the suspensions besides the shocks feel free to correct me.

Sport uses Hitachi Shocks as opposed to Bilsteins

4x4 sport sounds like it would be the best fit for you since you don't take it off-roading but if you need the 4x4 for weather you will have it.

Thanks everyone for all the advise and input! I've decided to go with the TRD OR! I would rather have the options and not need them than to need them and not have them. Who knows, maybe later down the road I'll get into off roading a bit more. My old 09 TRD OR was awesome so why change?

    Thanks again
    Ordering it on Wednesday

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Just get the SR5 and call it a day, then you can customize it all to your liking. I had a Jeep with a locker that I drove for 7 years and only ever used it 2 times. Unless you're doing some hardcore rock crawling, you don't really need a locker. Unless you just want to be cool and tell everyone your truck came with one from the factory.
