It's apples to apples. You are saying the fleet manager will give flat pricing to everyone who calls. That he will ignore his job of coordinating and supporting fleet sales to businesses to stop and sell cars like any other salesman on the floor. Which is not the case.

What you are telling people to do, which is call up the fleet manager instead of playing the game with the internet sales team from a few dealers, is terrible advice. Sorry if that hurts and you have to deflect by calling it a "strawman". My argument is not meant to be defeated because it is sound. You are claiming people at the dealership go out of there way to do other peoples jobs, which doesn't happen unless you are at one very sleazy dealer who allows the management to undercut the sales force that way.

I paid $500 more to buy from my local dealer over what was quoted from a dealer a few hours away. Well worth the good will.

Most dealers move on price. Ford, GM, and Ram/Fiat/Crysler definitely move more on certain vehicles than anyone else, but that's how they set up their entire pricing model.

Flat price dealers fall into two categories. Some are absolutely legit and really do figure out their overhead, what they can accept making for profit that's fair, and what they think customers will pay. They take that information and price accordingly. The local Subaru dealer is like that. The price is the price, no matter who you know or talk to with those dealers. Then there are the majority of dealers who say they are on flat pricing. They are simply trying to play a game where once they move an inch, most people people perceive that they move a mile, and they make the sale that way.

At the end of the day if you're on here you are probably an educated buyer and can tell which type of dealer you are dealing with pretty quickly.

    Tldr.

OP try True car service through consumer reports, and they different zip codes within 100 mile radius or so.
I got $1000 under invoice within 24 hours. Had to drive 3 hr roundtrip to get it.
It was a 15, not a 16, but still, give it a try.

Interesting side note, I used True Car at 6 dealerships when I wanted my truck and all denied the price I was quoted and told me to kick rocks.

It was pretty lame. 6 dealers in the surrounding 3 or 4 counties IIRC.

After that I figured True Car was pretty much a waste of time. I ended up going for invoice cost and got it plus $300 or so. Took 10 minutes to get it and I was ordering.

It could be that True Car pricing didn't work well for trucks that weren't on a dealer lot already, and my config is a rare one in California.

I'm still a bit surprised on how many good deals there are out there on 2016's that haven't arrived yet. I wonder if there will be many stories of last minute tom foolery from those dealers.

Could very well be. All deposits are refundable so nothing is final. Seems like most owners on TW paid what they were quoted but I would be interested to see who had signed quotes.

Actually, I think there are at least a half dozen 2016ers who have orders placed, deposits down and they (or the dealer, supposedly) don't know what the truck is even going to cost.

If you pay a non refundable deposit on a truck that doesn't exist yet....
