Purchased my first Tacoma about 6 months ago. 2013 DCSB 4x4 TRD off road. I use my truck about 50/40/10 between daily pavement driving, dirt trails scouting and hunting and towing my boat.

I've been researching lifts since I bought it and I'm starting to lean towards just piecing together a lift as opposed to buying a full kit. Just figured I'd get some opinions from those that have done it, good or bad.

I'm looking for functionality more so than looks. Just about all lifts look cool. My needs are basic. I want improved off road capabilities but still handle well on the pavement. Most of the areas I hunt are your standard 4x4 trails but there are some areas that get a little hairy with rocks and small boulders.

3" is plenty and I'm not really interested in MT or LT as they are more than I need.

Here's kind of what I'm thinking so far:

Camburg UCA's. New rear leaf packs. Not really sure what brand. I've heard the Dakaar packs are nice but haven't researched them much.

Shocks are ridiculous to figure out. I was thinking 5100's up front and B110's in the rear. Or coil overs but there's so many options it's hard to figure out which best suits my needs.

I don't want a super stiff ride. I don't forsee a plate bumper or winch in my future.

I know I'm missing a few components. So let's here some suggestions from those guys who have pieced their lifts together.

    Thanks guys!

Grey wire MOD, deck plate, diff breather MOD, 2nd gen. OME 883# on Tundra 5100's, OMD custom 3" leafsprings, rear shock relocation, Ivan Stewart TRD rims w/285/75/16's, '02 bumper MOD, Famous Fabrications sliders , LED interior/exterior lights, bed bar, Custom tube bumper, Old school KC day lighters,Red Ring 8" HID flood, Kenwood vhf 2M.. umm some other shit I'm forgetting right now

If you don't off road much or hard you can get by with the 5100's very well as for the rear, if you tow heavy or often leave the overload in place, if you're considering coil overs like icon/king/fox/etc: get ready to dig deep into your wallet, not cheap...

There are many options available. I'd suggest staying near 2" and going with 265/75R16s or 265/70R17s to avoid headaches and accelerated wear on the CVs in addition to keeping better acceleration/power/mpgs over a larger lift and tires.

Take a look at the Baja link in my sig for what I did and why.
