Could it have been because i had my e-brake on? Can anyone confirm this? ill try again tomorrow.

 

Did you try cutting the wire that everyone cut in this thread? You cut the other wire on accident?

If you wanted to, you could try cut the other wire. I don't know if it'll screw your truck up or not though. Mine worked fine on a 2013.
Also, don't just use electrical tape to hold your wires together. At least butt splice/crimp them back together.

 

I have a 2015 and cut the second yellow wire from the top, it worked as advertised.

 

@iRay808 ^^^^^Cut the same wire as HK33 did. Make sure you correctly splice or solder the wire you originally cut though.

 

Ok so i spliced back together the wires i originally cut and cut the second yellow wire like everyone else. Turned on my Lo4 and everything looks good. Thanks for all the help! Now time to put my truck to the test sometime this week.

 

On a 2015 it's still the second yellow wire from the top, but it has a thicker black tracer line while the first one (top) has a thin black tracer. There were some posts by members with earlier models that say it's the 2nd yellow wire with the thin black tracer line. Looks like Toyota decided to switch things up on us .. Same wire different gauge tracer line on a 2015. That's all. Here's a photo from my 2015.. If you want to do this mod. Cut the second yellow wire with the thicker black stripe.

Will try this mod in the same spot I got stuck wheeling yesterday and will post a vid next weekend.

 

My only question is... If this works so great why would Toyota force TRAC and VSC off when the truck is in 4lo? There must be some logic behind how the vehicle is originally set up to operate..

 

VSC... and maybe they want more Off Road TRD sales so one has traction control in low range? Although, they don't train salesmen about that advantage based on how they push the Sport TRD???

Picked up some bullet connectors..

Put a male connector on one end and a female on the other.. Then I put a dummy female end over the open connection (no pic showing that) to seal the open metal contact while its disconnected.




If I need to restore it to the way it was I can just plug the wire back in..

 

Where did you get the atrac switch from. Any more info on how to ground the wire with a relay?

 

is it harder to pull the glove box out?

OK, so i've got a 2011 DCLB 4x4 TRD Sport. I cut the second yellow wire from the top. Nothing happened. I don't get any flashing lights in 4 Low. the TC off comes on when i switch to 4L. The 4Lo light comes on.

I took it wheeling but didn't see anything flash or happen. Is something wrong?

 

Wrong harness maybe?
If you cut the right one. The 4 low light should flash when in 4 low but no beep. And you should be able to switch trac on and off when in 4 low

 

heres a pic for reference from a 2015. The plug is the one on the very top (see where it pulled out from in the pic). Wire is the second yellow wire from the top..in my picture it has a thicker black tracer line but in earlier model year tacomas it could have the thin black tracer line. Either way it has always been the second yellow wire from the top.

Does the yellow wire you cut have a black tracer line? If it's soild yellow, you may have pulled out the wrong plug to begin with.

Towards the end of the video there is a steep snowy hill climb in 4 low with trac where the taco started from half way up with no momentum.
Used it again when backing up a quad trail in reverse with a hairpin turn at the top. And at the beginning of the video getting out of the icy river.. Enjoy
