Operation Crash Bandicoot 4x4 Swapped 05' Tacoma

From what ive heard, its the individual shops not getting the alignment right(lack of knowledge?) im just gonna give the tech the paper that came with the ucas explaining it.

Also not beating on them like crazy but these things are beefy as hell...

 

I installed mine on a sat and the only place that could align it on sunday was a sears near by, i was skeptical but the guy came out and talked to me for 20 min or so about my truck and sounded like he knew a fair bit about wheeling and off road vehicles. I probably just got lucky but he set me up and i haven't had problems since.

 

Three's a local place near my friends house that will do it. If not, i'll be kinda sol til Monday

 

Well today hasnt been a good day. Someone broke into my truck and took both my ipods. :/

Savages.. prob some crackhead or something. No damage to the truck so there's that. Plans are still on for this weekend.

 

Well the build got pretty involved these last couple days.

It all started off by getting my LR UCAs on. The long bolt that holds the UCA in on the passenger side was a BITCH but we gots it done.

I also cranked up the Coilovers in preparation for the 285s

Went to Discount Tire in Greenville,SC to get them mounted and balanced, also got their lifetime warrenty on the tires even though i didnt buy them from them so i thought that was pretty chill.

Now here is where things get intresting. I gave the tech the sheet that explains how to adjust the UCAs, he didnt quite understand but winged it and this is what happened.



11 freaking degrees.... :/ So i left and went back to my friends house so we could correct the caster on that side.. What do ya know he used an air tool and made it impossible to adjust the mofo(i sheared off some of the bolt using a giant wrench and a 6 foot long breaker bar


So the following morning (today) i drove back to greenville and explained to him step by step how to do it. i wanted about 3+ caster because body rubbing problems.



Overall i thought the algnment went well, there were a couple hiccups but it worked out.

Then the task of trimming for the 285's began. I got the fender to clear but the body mount is a serious concern(i want to go to Overland Expo in Asheville,NC next week and this needs to be fixed before i leave or im gonna have a bad time.

Random pIcs. Im loving the 285s I can feel a loss in power but it's not that noticable to do anything about it at this point in time.

looks good man for cab mount chop i just picked up some flat steel from true value, and used pics as a reference of where to cut the mount at. then just make a rough outline on the steel and cut it to fit and weld it in.

I was in a similar situation where i was going wheeling 3 days after i got my tires and didn't have time to get cab mount chop plates shipped.

 

Yeah ive got about 2 weeks to get it done. Looking to get it done this weekend actually when i ride back home possibly.

Correctomundo. I love the size. Although the power loss is kinda noticiable on the hilly area that is my home..

 

Meh - you'll get used to it. It's not a racecar.

 

A+ Truck!! Doing everything the only way you should - The right way! Love the roof/bed rack setup.

I just wanted to point out that alignment sheet. I was the 'alignment guy' at my local shop for years. That camber in the LF at -1.90 is a little much for my liking. You'll be fine as long as you rotate often. If you don't expect premature wear on the inside.

 

Oh was it right away? That's way in worried about hoping I can regear in a year or two

 

I mean.. its not a super big deal really. It just takes another sec or two for the truck to get going but once it's rolling, its good

Im getting used to it.. Just got my first tank done 15 mpg

Much thanks my man. I'll get them rotated every 6K and i should be good. May try and get it realigned.. The guy who did mine was a new kid and he wasnt too knowledgeable about my ucas/adjusting.


Also.. Got this on the way to the house.. Gonna try and get this installed.




Also just ordered a Tacoma Bed Mat. 67$ warehouse deal through Amazon(it was the last one left)

 

Update time: Successfuly completed the Cab mount chop.

Went to see my boi @Tlook in Clemson down the road so we could tackle it together (+ give him a package).

@Tlook starting it off, we switched back and forth alot.





Overall, it took about 2 hours. Im very happy with the results. No rubbing at full lock in reverse at all on the passenger.

The drivers side.. it's like a 1/8" gap.. too close for comfort and at some point this week i'll trim the mount some more.

Now to wait for the snorkel to arrive so i can drill a big ass hole in my fender..
