Post MPG for 2016 Tacoma here

Which tundra gets 20 mpg? I want that one.

 

Onboard fuel computers can be very generous. At least my last two vehicles were by several mpg. I always do it the old fashioned way, dividing the miles driven by the gallons used.

 

I think it should be added to OP to include a hand calculated method. I don't know why the computer would use a different calculation than miles driven/gallons used?

 

I will know by the end of the week. Doing a full tank to compare to the computer

 

I see two, marketing and sales...

 

I do believe the newer ones are more accurate. In part because of lawsuits brought to some automakers. Most people I know with cars 2 years or newer always see a margin of error of only .5 mpg.

 

Tell that to Volkswagen's lying, cheating computers...

 

My first week with my stock 2016 Tacoma TRD off road 4X4 I got 16 MPG city.

 

1st tank, my comp read 26.1mpg. I calculated it and it was 24 something. My 3rd tank, my comp read 25.6. I calculated it and it was 23.3. I'm hoping that this error somehow self corrects in the future. I drive my truck with an extremely light foot and I time street light usually perfectly to where its always green or I don't step on the gas to just meet everyone at the red light.

 

I just did my first extended trip, and I was very surprised to see 26mpg on the display. This was driving a constant 60 mph, no wind or hills, light traffic. I was extremely surprised with the numbers, but this was probably the best conditions for achieving the optimum fuel mileage.

 

I just have to believe some folks are smarter than what they type. Given the gearing and body shape why do folks fixate on MPG when they buy a truck. Put big fat tires on a vehicle, jack the damn truck up, drive down the freeway at 80 miles per hour and moan and groan about the mileage they are getting. Come on guys, take a basic physics class. It takes so much energy to push a rounded heavy brick through the air. Enlarge the frontal area of the brick by jacking it up to ensure you are pushing through as much air as possible and expect 30 MPG with larger than life tires.
News flash it isn't going to happen no matter how creative the engineers are when they face down the Liberal law makers.

I think it's because the Tacoma get such bad MPG for a V6.... I think Toyota could add a lot of power and still get the same or better MPG..
I had 2 runners and they got 2-3 MPG better than my Tacoma with the same engine...
I go up north with my buddy in his runner with bigger tires and he uses 2 less gallons in about 160 miles but my truck is much faster...
But my other buddy's new stock jeep Rubicon uses exactly the same amount of gas and my truck is faster and I have a lift....

I think if Toyota is going to sacrifice torque the new engine better have good MPG and it does....
I have to drive 3 hours to the closest place to off road so I need both power and MPG...
2 dollar gas won't be around for ever....
I plan to travel to all the western states so if I can get 20 instead of 16 I may upgrade...

If the new truck can have a lift, bigger tires and get 18-20 MPG that is a big difference and help people decide if it's worth upgrading...

Anyone have a lift yet?????

 

What size tires?

 

Check fuelly, larger trucks get better MPG.

2016 Tacoma - 19.0mpg
Colorado - 19.5 mpg
Ram with the 3.6L V6 -20.0 mpg
Ram ecodiesel - 22.0 mpg
F150 2.7 turbo - 18.0mpg
F150 3.5 turbo - 16.6mpg
Chevy 5.3 v8- 17.5

The competition is larger and gets the same or better MPG.

 

In today's market the only reason to get a midsize truck is because you prefer the smaller size.

 

Unless of course you want to buy the truck to play with. I get a kick out of those who complain about gas mileage and then want to run large heavy tires with a lift the truck really doesn't need but is neat for looks. If you want to play you are going to pay and that isn't the truck manufacturers problem. It takes so much energy (gas/diesel) to push so much weight through the air. The minor gas differences quoted above disappears with a heavy foot, heavy tires, higher frontal profiles and absence of frontal dams.

I loose 2 mpg just putting on snow tires. Wtf, wouldn't most off road mud tires absolulty kill mileage. Tires are HUGE factors.

 

so far averaging about 20mpg. I take it easy and that's about a 50/50 mix of city and highway. I also took off the front air dam though. As long as I stay around 18.5 like my 11 tacoma, I'll be happy. I'll find out once these tires wear down and they get swapped out for something a little more aggressive.
