Thanks for the tip and the source, nd4spdbh. I'll be reading that pdq. I always wondered about 0w-30.

As much as i love shell rotella T / T6 (i exclusively use rotella t 15w-40 in my motorcycles due to their wet clutches and almost excessively frequent oil changes) they [rotella t / t6] really dont have a place in gasoline car engines. They dont have energy conserving additives, or additive packages needed for gasoline combustion engines with long oil change intervals.

Also T6 only comes in 5w-40, which at operating temperature is too thick for the design of the v6. Use any Xw-30 .... preferably 0w-30 but 5 / 10w-30 is also perfectly acceptable.

I'd personally use an OEM filter and whatever flavor of quality oil you want. I'm using Mobil 1 because I can get it cheap at Costco or Walmart. I've got another year before I'll be doing my own oil changes. I did already change the oil in my gear box to MT90. I need to do the axles and t case as well.

Isn't the 5w-30 going to be more stable than the 0w-30? How long can you go on the 0w-30 before it becomes a 20wt?

at standard 5k oil change intervals (hell even 10k) the stability difference between 0 and 5 w - 30 is nill.

Also when a synthetic "breaks down" it becomes its final weight so a 5w-30 or 0w-30 would become straight 30, but that takes way longer than a standard oil change interval to occur.
