Could be worse. Buddy drove home from Alpine with straps, a come-a-long, and zip ties holding it together...

Nice to see more in Benicia. I see a lot of nice tacomas around but I'm not one to wave unless I recognize you. And let's be honest I usually am never paying attention

I always check out each tacoma I drive by, but 99% of the time its some super old dude or some random girl. Never seen any of you guys around, or any real modded Tacoma's for that matter. But rest assured, I'll probably be flying past you if you do see me :D

I run the boxed UCAS from Desert Racing Products. Close
To 35-40k on em and no issues at all.

You'll want UCA's. No sense in dropping $ on a lift only to have your truck ride like shit. As much as we all wish we didn't, we drive on pavement 90% of the time. Save your $ up and buy UCA's along with a lift.

And, if I'm pitching in my .02 here, I say skip the toytec, skip the billies and the 5100's, skip the AAL.

Kings, fox or Icon coilovers up front. Smooth body or resi shocks (King, fox or
Icon) for the rear, and a true leaf pack such as OME Dakar or Deaver or All Pro expo. The AAL is nothing more than a band aid for the crappy leaf springs the Tacos come with. If you plan on having any weight over the rear (bumper, rack, shell, etc) a full leaf pack is worth it's weight in gold. And they're relatively affordable. (+-$400 for the Dakars?)

Budget lifts are ok, but you seem like a guy who had put some time and energy into researching your lift, why sell yourself short? Work a few more days of OT, skip a few nights out at the bar, and buy a high quality lift once, rather than something to get you by until you get a better one. You'll save $ and time down the line not having to pay for labor, alignments, shipping etc.

    Just a thought.

^truth. I went through a cheap lift before I ponied up for a quality one and kicked myself for wasting the money on the cheap one.

We all kind of went through this decision making already. Since everything is new to him, it was suggested that he just start with the basics and upgrade as time passed.

I mean MJ ran with crap for three years until he finally got some kings in the front and scored Alex's old fox smoothies.

From the sounds of it, Jay wants to upgrade ALL the way with plate bumpers and everything. If he buys everything once, that means he'd have to buy coilovers and leafs with plate bumpers and armor in mind. The point of incremental upgrades is so that he can get out there to the trails as soon as possible to at least be on the same trips. Plus the other benefit of incremental upgrades is understanding how each one affects his vehicle and ride and also allows him to appreciate the upgrades as well.

I had no clue you had this setup....did u get it installed yet? My main concern is having to relocate my shocks..I don't really want too. I would have to do away with my diff diaper, and I don't want to do that

Thank you all for your input, I'd sit here and quote you all but by doing that I give my superiors the chance to catch me slacking off at my desk.o_O

For now, what I really need are tires. That being said, I'm ordering 265/70/17 BFG AT and will save some extra money for the lift. The wife gave me the green light to spend whatever is needed to lift the truck without sacrificing performance (she's a bad ass, and loves the truck as much as I do).

I think I'm going to go with the SCS Stealth 6 in Matte Bronze if they still have them. Something about the white on bronze that I like, maybe just because I haven't seen it around as much other colors.

My tires are close to being retired, so first things first.

Hey to each their own, I'm just tossing my 2 cents in. And maybe trying to save a guy a few $ in the long run. If "Crap" is what you're advising him to invest in, then so be it...

However I do have to call BS on the last line in your post. I'm pretty sure dude would appreciate the hell out of a new set of Fox's on all 4 corners, without having had an intermediate lift prior.

But back on topic, good luck with whatever you choose! And props for doing a fair amount of researching here on TW prior to purchase.

I'm an analyst for a living. I have to research, as much as I'd love to half ass my way through it. Love your truck by the way.

I owe you all a beer when I meet any of you!!

Haha, thanks. Yeah, I mean at the end of the day, you'll be fine no matter what way you go, and if you're not, you'll pull it off, sell it on here, and go another route.

I would say no matter what brand shocks/coilovers you get, do the upper control arms too (ride quality, alignment issues/tire wear) and go for a full leaf pack, especially if you plan to add armor/bumpers.

Why would you have to get rid of it? There's plenty of space and ways you can mount shocks. Post a pic of your rear :)
