Help with spare tire

So I got a flat going to work today. When I went to fix it I could not get the " f " ing thing in the hole to get the tire down. I had to get under the truck and stick my hand up there and line it up. Is there a easier way to do this?

 

Gotta just take the time and get it lined up....or mount your spare somewhere else

yea..i had to air up my spare. the TPMS came on. it wasnt that easy. square peg, round hole. glad it happened. i will be ready if i get a flat.

my chevy work truck, i can do blindfolded. jus sayin.

 

^^^^x2.practice it as well.i drop mine 3........ times a year just to check it and clean out the road grime.

 

Mybe I will cut a little door in the bed and weld something up.

I have none

 

Use a flashlight to look in the hole and then you can see the slot. That's the only thing that helps me.

I also throw my spare in the bed during the winter or when i off road. That way, i'm not dicking around with the thing while kneeling in slush.

 

I use my Maglite to shine in there to see the orientation of the slot in which the crank will rest.

On another note, I lowered the spare on a new F150 yesterday and noticed not only was the spare protected under lock and key, but the passage way in which the crank handle had to pass was at the end of a small tunnel. All you had to do was insert the handle and turn - no guess work. The tunnel guided the handle to the mechanism perfectly.

haha I just saw this thread under new posts...my old lady was driving the truck today and came home and told me that a light was on...so I go look and its the TPMS light...all the tires looked good so I droped the spare and sure enough it was a little low...I guess the system is decent after all!

 

I'm thinking of installing a small lamp under the bed to illuminate the spare tire crank socket.

Why don't you just put a small funnel on the hole to line you up. Then stick your rod in the hole to drop the load. lol

 

I'm going to try this. Better to practice B 4 it happens then 2 B F'd when it does.

 

So true. But the funnel can hurt your chances at all.

 

my back left tire had a nail puncture in the side so I took the brand new fancy spare down and replaced the punctured tire.I have not repaired ( via jackleg tire dealer , a reputable one will not patch a hole in the sidewall) the punctured tire yet to replace the spare. this happened a couple of weeks ago and I've been getting better gas mileage without hauling the heavy ass spare around. feels kind of weird not having a spare tire, kind of like living on the edge...
