I will be picking up my 2010 on Nov 27, I believe it was finished being built on Oct. 14.

I had planned on taking it to get detailed that day. I'm pretty darn lazy so i think i'll just take it to a detail shop. Anyone have any opinions on what to do

Uhhh....It should get a pretty decent detail from the dealership before you take delivery...Seems like a waste of money to get it done the day you pick it up...

maybe a light wax, the car is newly painted, and the interios should be spotless. Not sure what you are paying to have detailed. Spray some armor all on those tires and go burn some rubber you got a new truck :woot:

You should actually wait about 180 days from the time it was painted in the factory before you wax it, machine or hand wax. Because the paint underneath is not dry yet, and if you wax it, it could damage it.

I'm not a paint expert, but this is what I have heard from some painting professionals.

Lazy or not, spending money on a detail job on a brand new truck seems like a waste of money to me. Give it a few months (perhaps through the winter) so that when the appropriate time comes you'll at least be able to see a noticeable difference.

The dealer probably has a pretty good guy. I know the guy at my sons Honda dealer is killer. Josh has a dark blue TC and it looks like blue glass when the guy is done with it.

Bako, I think this might have been true at one time or another but when our trucks roll off the assembly line, they can be wax right then and there. They bake the paint at factory at something like 250* or 300* before all the plastic and other non heat friendly things go in. If you get an after market paint job then there is likely a time to wait before the paint is dry before you should wax.

Im no paint expert but I don't think you have to wait. And to the OP, I think you should save the cash for some mods that you like more than a detail on its first day. By the way, its a truck and deserves to see some dirt in it every once in a while.

    My 2 cents

I read that a new car does not come waxed. Now i guess i am misleading by "detail". i mean more just waxed, as it seems they do not come waxed from the factory. Maybe that is false, im trying to read more into it

Factory doesn't do it, but your dealer probably will have it done before delivering it to you.

    Mine did.

Yes could be true, but like both of us have said, is that we are not paint experts. So there is nothing wrong with waiting 180 days or so before you wax, just to be on the safe side. Maybe we can have a painting expert chime in on that so both of us can figure it out lol. But you could be right with the baking part, that could make it just fine to wax it.

yup i had read that too. So depending on whether or not my dealer waxes it or not. I will have to ask my dealer and check i suppose. I had semi planned on doing this the day of pickup if i find it hasn't been waxed. i live in canada and its coming on wintertime and salt is a big issue around here. Also doing exhaust that day too! :D

I didn't pay to have my truck detailed but when I picked it up I told the salesman I did not want it washed or detailed or anything. I drove it home with all of the window stickers and such plastered on it. The next day I masked everything off and went to work. This is also how I found a small dent in the fear fender.

Mine did not come detailed, it was just "washed" and not all that well in my opinion. So the next free Saturday I had i washed her down and did a nice light hand wax. NOW it feels and looks like glass.

I guess you could say I don't buy the wait to wax thing, that's because I am firm believer in the fact that this thing was painted about 50 to 100 days ago. I mean if you think about it logically think about when it was made as compared to how long it sat on the lot ect ect....what I'm trying to say is that IMO the paint has already cured.

Do it yourself brother, grab a six pack and pick up some nice light wax a terry cloth applicator pad and some micro fiber towels and let 'er rip. Plus as mentioned above it's a great way to give your new truck a full inspection.

I've done this with all my new cars and they've always looked great.

    Congrats on the new truck!!
