Polyurethane Radiator Support Mounts (Cab Also)

I like how the title of this thread is Polyurethane Cab Mounts, but is more about the Radiator bushings. lol Thanks for the heads up. I've put it on my list of things to do when the time comes. I have a 2014, so not quite ready to replace mine.

 

People have been installing it without the internal metal sleeve? Geez. I show people how to do the thing on here and they somehow feel compelled to attempt to reinvent the wheel for this install. Lol.

I'm having a hard time identifying if my cab mounts are shot. They're obviously rusty, but how does the rubber bushing look to you guys? I've never replaced bushings like this before so any advice you guys can give would be appreciated.

Age, miles and elements have a lot to do with their shape. Definitely yours have been weathered by the elements.

Mine had ~120k miles on them and were showing cracks. A picture should be in this thread.

Done, lots of clicks an noises when jacking up on the radiator mount to fit big bushing on top!!

Yeah you tend to hear a lot of clicking and popping when you are pry up or jacking up the support. I hate those sounds. Glad you got it done though!

 

once i took the OEM bushings out i noticed on the bottom of the radiator bushing mounts there is a part that is stamped out towards the ground, would that metal just compress into the new poly bushings and cut and stop at a certain point? its just on top of the small bushing in my photo. OP you would probably know best what I'm referring to if you took yours out and flipped the big bushing from the bottom to the top was the big bushing cut or compressed into the shape of the stamped out metal?

 

I know exactly what you are talking about. The metal is not sharp, its just essentially dimpled upwards if you are starring into the design from the frame upwards (as if you are laying down and looking up at the truck) I noticed the dimpling myself but upon install of it, this polyurethane material is so durable that the only thing that dimpling would do is just leave an imprint mark on the bushings, thats it. There is definitely more than enough material on the "upper" bushing to absorb and be able to handle that with ease.

 

only reason i was curious is because i put the thinner bushing on the bottom which has the dimple pressing into the thin bushing. Thanks for the info!! so far so good.

 

Either way will be fine. I studied the dimpling and the best plan of attack for it, but ultimately concluded that since the bushings are much more sturdy in design they will not have an effect regardless of the way they mount on the frame and body when they are installed.

 

Got mine installed (big bushing on top) this weekend, but I think I might have to flip them. With the big bushing on top, my hood appears to be 1/4-1/2" higher than the fenders, at the front. Not sure if the core support is too high due to the big bushing being on top, but it only takes 20 minutes, so Im going to flip it and see if it looks better.

 

Did you use the washer and bushing?

 

Yeah, I used a washer above the top bushing and below the bottom bushing.

 

The reason the hood sits higher is because you raised the core support with the bushings and essentially are making the hood sit higher then it does from the factory. Fiberglass fenders have much more leeway when it comes to hiding gaps than the stock metal fenders so it doesn't surprise me you have gaps due to the install. As Badbrains suggested, remove the thick washer and see if it helps.

 

Ordered mine yesterday, looks like yet another thing to add to my ongoing list... Gota love long travel....
