Seriously looking at these for my next set, but I have a few questions.

    1. Have any of you stuffed a 255/80/17 in the stock spare location?
    2. I have OME/887 front with tsb rear and 1" block for my lift. Will a 255/80/17 on the stock spare wheel mount on the front without clearance issues, or will I need a wheel with more backspacing. Running iShock UCA's.
    3. VS a 285/70/17, do you feel the power suck with these? How about comparison for MPG's? Better or about the same?
    4. How does on road traction compare to 265's or 285's? Is there any noticeable decrease in handling, especially wet traction? It seems these are advantages to the 255 for offroading (depending on what you are doing), but do you give anything up for daily driving?
I like the idea of getting the height of the 285 without what I really feel are a lot of negatives. Sure, they look good, but for everything else I prefer my old 265/70/17's. These seem to be an option to get the height I want, but I'm not 100% clear on if they will make me as happy as my 265/70's did.

My truck came stock with 245 dunlops. Compared to those, any 255s are going to handle great. I certainly have no complaints with my 255s on highway performance.

    IT NEVER ENDS..........
With 887 the 255 will fit fine and stock wheels works too but I opted to put on a 1.25 bora spacer just to give the perfect stance in IMO. But the stocks fit it fine might have to take off the stupid little front fender plastic pieces. You can also run wheels with 4.5 backspacing look into those threads and research. Im not worried about it now as i wont be getting new scs rims until i get back from deployment and they are last on the list of mods honestly. If you search the threads i believe I remember someone stuffing a 255 into the spare similar to the 285 cus it is a 33 in tire but it depends on your truck. I will be putting a full size spare under there shortly as soon as i can find another one in stock around here. I have never had 285 on my truck so honestly i cant compare but the 285 is just wider so in theory the 255 should have less rolling resistance i guess but i get between 14-16 mpg depending on how i drive and the gas i put in. Others with experience can tell you better but so far alot of guys like the skinnies and so do I! I would recommend getting at least a 3 leaf AAL in back though instead of that block to help the ride out. @Chux and a couple others can give you some more info but check out the great threads already started.

Thanks @ready6delta! I already have wheels with -12mm offset and 4.5" backspacing. My question was more if I could use my stock spare wheel with this tire and it be functional in any location on the truck if needed. If not I was going to look at a steel spare wheel with 4.5" backspacing. But it looks like this tire would eliminate that need.

I don't mind the ride of my truck at all. It's great with the OME's, and basically a stock rear with TSB and just a 1" block. I would like to upgrade eventually. I actually got a letter from Toyota today that they are recalling my truck leaf springs and they are working on a solution early in 2016. So it looks like I'm going to get a brand new set of leafs from Toyota. What I'll probably do is get a 1.5" progressive or 2" AAL and talk Toyota into putting the AAL in when they install the new leaf pack (provided that's what they come out with). Hoping that plan works out!
