That TSB has nothing to do with the ticking on a 2007.

At Idle in park or when driving slowly say next to a building or parked cars you can hear it reverberating or reflecting of another close by surface.

Also hear it in park while you give it some gas increasing the rpms, it REALLY gets loud.

Ticking comes from DRIVERS SIDE ONLY.

There was another post at Toyota Nation forum where some folks are putting a rubber O ring between this emission control actuator that is bolted with one bolt to the side of the drivers side intake.

This actuator has NOTHING TO DO with the ticking, I know. Not only did I do the O ring test, I completely disconnected the unit for 1 minute while at idle....nothing.....still ticking loud. VERY LOUD.

PS. My caps don't mean I'm yelling at anyone.

Our attorney has had our 2007 Tacoma independently evaluated by 2 ASE techs. I wanted nothing but THE TRUTH from these techs. In other words, what is going on? Is there a problem? Is it normal?

Both ASE techs said it is internal lifter/valve/and or connecting rod/wrist pin issues. Both said the ticking will NOT GO AWAY regardless what type or weight oil is used. Both said the engine must be broken down to repair.

MOST IMPORTANT is that both techs said the vibration they felt in the steering wheel under acceleration could be related to the sloppy machining and or internal issues. They did say that the 30-20 mph vibration was NOT related to the ticking, they said this is an internal transmission issue altogether different.

Get your best tech and in house attorney ready Toyota!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would you want your 2007 with 300 miles on it torn apart??

Mine has less than 100 miles and have heard the ticking and have felt the vibration at about 60 to 70 mph at the gas pedal and steering wheel. Seems to do it when it is hot.

To me it sounds like it's coming from the headers?

They used a stethoscope type device and other really high tech things they plugged in.
I wished it were as simple as headers. It's not.

It is internal, and it is a big deal.

Ok I've been reading these threads on the ticking issue for a couple of weeks. Well I just got my TACO today. I love everything about it except this wispy ticking exhaust sound.

I don't know if it's the same problem you guys are describing or if it's just me not liking the sound of the exhaust. It only does it under acceleration. At light acceleration it's more noticeable before the lower growl of the exhaust tries to drowned it out.

It's higher pitched... whispey... fluttering noise.

    What am I hearing?

No idea. It had a full tank when I picked it up. I'm guessing regular unleaded from the Shell station across from the dealership. I won't get to put my own QT Silver into it until next week.

It did kinda sound like valve noise. But not the ping I'm used to hearing with octane issues.

Also sounded like a diesel at times, but it sounded like it was coming from the tail pipe as best I could tell.

I'll be putting my first full day of driving on it tomorrow maybe I can figure out more.

    Ach...ye ain't had it but a day, Evil Betty...:p

    Ping can sound different...sometimes diesel-ish...says I.

I found mine quieted down significantly under hard acceleration, with mid-grade.

My dealership did fuel me up with 87.

Are all Tacoma's made in Cali? My 07 has none of these problems. No ticking, no vibration. Mine was manufactured at the plant in Fremont.

I know, but I don't like that sound. To me it sounds like a 10 year old car :(
