Oil Filter on 2016 Tacoma

    I can not find the oil filter on the 2016 Tacoma 3.5 engine . Yes it's early but I want to change the oil at 100 miles to get the new engine break in wear shavings out . Thanks .

    Why is that? I like that the filter ends up saving you money and it's more environmentally friendly.

    A little of this and a little of that.
    I'm OK with the environmental stuff, but IMO, it's a bigger hassle than a spin on oil filter.

    I'm not sure about saving money either. What does a canister type oil filter cost vs. a spin on type?

    It's hard to give comparisons but my friend's prius filter was 3 bucks less. We ended up buying one of those generic sockets that come in different sizes and hammered it on. It's on there permanently but it makes things hella easy.

    The metal Toyota Filter wrench cap can be found at your local auto parts store like Autozone. I got one(Lisle brand) for my wife's Rav 4 for like $8 at O'Reilly auto. Or you can order the fork type online.

    Yeah his canister was metal and we bought a oil filter socket that said it was for Toyota's but it was like 0.5-1mm too tight. We hammered out on but couldn't get it off so it became a permanent part of the system. At least now he just needs a 3/8 ratchet to remove it

    I have a tractor that has a canister type filter. Meh...you get accustomed to it. It's OK.

    Yep, the owners manual just tells you the basic basic of what you need to know about the vehicle. Tells you nothing about servicing it. You have to buy a factory service manual if you want oil change info and all that other in depth jazz.

    Engine break-in takes 1000 miles. Change the engine oil then. Rear diff break-in takes 500 miles. Don't tow anything during that time. Change the rear diff oil at 500 miles.

    True dat, DoorDing. Access to the canister on my tractor is on the side of block. Very easy access. Four bolts and it's done. Spin off oil filter on Z71 is a bitch to get to. As far as canister filter changes being messy, I just don't have any experience with them other than with one of my tractors. Usually, when working on tractors, you get so dirty anyway you just don't even notice it.
