3rd gen 4x4, dcLb sport why not?

Wow. Very few members actually use the bed space huh? I use mine for camping equipment and 2x4x6. Nice fitting it in without it sticking out. I am glad they made the bed deeper for 3rd gen. Would help taller ice chests when closing the bed cover.

 

Love my long bed with the extender for the dirt bikes.
Actually traded a 2014 SB for a 15 LB. shorty was useless. Might as well have a 4 runner

 

Same bed space , more goodies like MTS and Crawl Control plus the locker

If you do some hardcore off roading and rock crawling, I recommend the TRD off road short bed (even though it is available in a long bed as well). If you do most of your driving on paved roads and occasional dirt or gravel roads with some humps, get the TRD Sport Long bed.

 

Said he doesn't off road or crawl aside from going to the beach and a grid road every once in a while in the original post....

Hey, you have my support. Trade or sell that two year old truck..you definily need a new one, badly.

 

Unless you need the extra interior space, you could also consider an access cab, as they also have a 6 foot bed.

But I would just get the DCLB.

 

If you do real hardcore off roading, get a standard cab short wheel base 2.7L 2013/14 the last year they made them. Nothing beats these short wheel base beasts. If they had only put a six in them. I raised my gen one standard cab a couple inches and it put my neighbor's son's Jeep Rubicon to shame. I actually pulled him out of a ditch he was stuck in one afternoon. I never let him forget it. The access cabs, crew cabs are all hideously long and a concession to the WF and kids. My wife loved driving it in mud on the skidder trails.

Since you won't be going off road, I sense that the right decision would be to get the the Sport LB.

 

I wrestled with the same question and came to the conclusion that the main reason I need the truck is so I don't have to get creative hauling lumber, dirt, etc in my wife's Forester. I had an 08 Sport DCLB that paid for my return to college and I will be getting the same configuration in the 3rd gen. I do a fair amount of construction/remodel projects.

If you were to off-road semi-regularly, you would appreciate the shorter truck, but otherwise the 5' bed is pretty tiny for hauling anything.

If you don't really haul anything or off-road, and just want a truck to look more manly then get the shorty or grow a beard and just drive a car with those testicle things hanging off the bumper.
