Ok few questions on my ultragauge plus. does the plus support engine, oil, or tans temp? mine doesn't show any of those and it does not recognize any fuel sensors, i had a gallon or two in the tank and it said i can go 95 mi on that. no way in hell that's possible. The other thing was it says 67/101 gauges or something like that in the initial setup, is that proper?

 

Only the MX supports trans temp. Oil is MIA on my MX, I don't think it is available. As far as fuel sensors go, our trucks fuel senders can not be used. You have to calibrate distance first, set engine size, and gas tank size. Plus you have to tell UG when you fill up. To much for me so I haven't used it for that. I think the 67/101 gauges might mean it sees 67 out of 101 possible. I may be wrong, I haven't played with mine to much yet.

 

It does a lot of things, but since it does a lot it's pretty complicated for many functions. Best to download the PDF for your unit. If you have the Plus, don't DL the MX one etc. Printing it out really helped me a lot. Only 61 pages or so.

I printed the pdf and sat in my truck and read it, then did both calibrations. Next day my wife and I went on a 180 mile RT. I let her drive while i played with the UG. I learned a lot and the trip was enjoyable because I didn't have to watch my wife's driving and be fearful for my life.

 

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but how long is the cable that it comes with? I want to play around with some mounting options but I want to know how much I have to play with before I order it.

 

The cable is just long enough to plug in and route up the A pillar along the headliner to the mirror. I would guess around 4 1/2 to 5 feet long.

 

According to the manual, it is ~6 feet.

Anybody having a hard time getting the mileage calibration correct? Directions say to reset trip gauges then exit to menu. It seems I go a tenth of a mile or more before I can back all the way out of the menus and it starts at zero. I am better off leaving the calibration at zero.

 

You're not suppose to drive while calibrating it. Come to a dead stop, reset calibration, exit menu, start driving til 2.5-3 miles, pull over and set the calibration.

I'm gonna redo mine today. Got new tires

My friend had one of these on his FJ. He never calibrated distance just adds the fuel and mileage on fillups. his mileage seems to be pretty accurate though.

 

I like my UG but the torque converter lockup gauge always reads 0. So when does the TC lock up? Can anyone help?

 

Got mine mounted up right above the mirror using a scrap piece of aluminium and some double sides adhesive tape to attach it above the headliner.

 

Help!! I love my new Ultragauge, but something's rotten in the state of Denmark! I'm posting two photos from a trip I made today. The avg mpg I'm getting since I installed the UG about 3 weeks ago is consistently around 18.5. (I'll take THAT up in another forum.) I filled up with gas this morning, informed UG of the fillup and then calibrated my mpg. I then drove about 60 miles on mostly divided highway to my destination, and the 60 miles home. Here's the conundrum I have. The avg. mpg shown on page 1 started out at about 18.5. After the trip the page 1 average mpg jumped from 18.5 to 20.2 On page 2, you can see the trip mpg of 19.5. My overall mpg CANNOT have increased from 18.5 to 20.2 if my trip mileage averaged 19.5. How can that be? Can anyone help me? Also, the tranny temp averaged 150-160 for the whole trip, but after I exited the highway onto local roads, it jumped to 190. Any explanations for this too? I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!

haha love that movie. As for the temp jumpin up after exiting the freeway, this is because you were runnin the engine and tranny hot to maintain highway speed, but the speed of the air rushing over them pulled a lot of the heat away. After you exited the freeway you slowed down a bunch so there was less wind speed and less air pulled over the engine and tranny, so their temp was higher as they could not lose heat as quickly as they could with 70mph wind rushing over them. This is normal, no cause for concern. If you've ever had an engine overheat from, say, a cracked head or blown gasket it likely happened either right after you exited the freeway, or because you had to slow down in traffic.

 

Thanks! I have seen graphs on threads here where running the tranny fluid at 190 seriously decreases the lifespan. I guess that would be for extended time periods? My short excursions north of 190 won't harm the fluid too much?
