It all depends on how you look at it. If you only care about CO2 emissions than Diesels should be more prolific. However, if you care about other pollutants particularly those associated with smog, then really more people should be running gas.

Tomato, tomatoe. Either way is not great for us or the environment. At the end of the day though breaking environmental laws willingly should carry a harsh punishment.

I agree. And fooling consumers to such an extreme degree should also come with a hefty punishment.

All this combined with the struggling Euro. VW headquarters is probably a shitstorm right now.

Is this not because there are heavy trucks and semi trucks blowing coal around the US on a daily basis to the tune of millions of miles?

They are actually the same for Gasoline and Diesel IIRC. The problem is that Diesels cylinder temperatures are so much higher that much more NOx and particulate matter is produced, not to mention some more fuel goes under consumed, which means additional measures must be taken to get a Diesel to pass emissions.

I don't believe Diesel should have special smogs exemptions just because it's 10-20% more efficient in terms of CO2 reduction and energy per liter. Smog is still smog. Pollution is still pollution. Heck, maybe if something is done with CO2 production laws in the USA gas will have to take extraordinary measures to stick around too.

Same type of people who would buy Toyotas that rust in half after 5 years or murderously accelerate and are made by the same imperialistic people who bombed Pearl Harbor. Really? Car companies are no different than other big companies- they strive to make money first and foremost.

Yes. Ironic that some are railing against a German car company, but have no problem supporting a Japanese company. Last time I checked, both countries are now our allies.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
My 2012 has 120,000 on it and has never left me stranded or needed anything besides routine maintenance. Can't say the same thing for my Tacoma with 80k. However after this i will not buy another VW, probably just pick up a 328d for my daily driver. My wife's 328d wagon averages 42mpg (hopefully BMW didn't have the same software programmer) so at this point a buyback sounds great to me!

they do have a 500k, 600k and 700k club on the TDI forum...and if a $25k car runs with minimal repair for 700+k miles on original trans and motor - I don't think it's "crap"

    I LOLed

Are you insinuating that America is an imperialistic nation?

That wording has been used against the United States for it's actions overseas a few times. Read into it what you will.
