Thoughts on 37s

I think you would snap a shaft. 37s would probably be the max on a stock rear axle / front diff.

 

Everyone says that, but there are lots of 1985 pickups on 40's... I think the problem for us is lower gear sets for the front chunk.

 

unless you have a 4.7 crawl box

 

I plan on running 39s after I get a bigger axle and front race hubs

I sheared an axle shaft about a month ago. Timken front unit bearing are holding up fine though

 

I think you should just go ahead and get the surgery instead.

@SGTCap you may want to consider editing the thread title to something else since Tacoma's on 37's are a reality. You can do it yourself now with the new forum software.

 

I'm aware, since I've had a set on my truck for months as is discussed in this longass thread.

I see no reason to change the title. Its still appropriate and anyone searching 37 will find it.

 

Agreed. It doesnt say "What do y'all think about running 37s since its never been done before." This whole thread, even currently, is thoughts on 37s.

I did 40"'s on an 84 regular cab, long bed, 22R. I put over 200,000 miles on it, most of that with the 40's.....and never broke a thing. Granted, I was easy on it, but it did some muddin' back then. Biggest problem I had then was that truck was kinda narrow for it's height. It would induce sphincter lock up with relative ease.

Yep. Hands down the best vehicle of ANY kind I ever owned. It treated me well.

My '84 started out on 35"'s. That lasted all of 2 months. Then I saw the first set of 40" "Gateway Gumbo Mudders" I'd ever seen to that stage in life. I HAD to get them on my truck. Lucky for me I know how to set up ring and pinions....'else I would have been driving to work in low range!

 

I like the positive talk about 40's. Now someone needs to do it. I know the guys over at RST run 40's on their Currie 60's and they look sick.

Haha yeah I like how 40s on a 3000# 80s model single cab pickup, used mostly for muddin and otherwise babied, gives people in here confidence to run 40s on their 5000# + double cab 2nd gen truck with stock axles and use it for high speed or rock crawling activities. Strange perception ......

 

I don't care if it's a good idea I just want someone else to do it.
