Can you elaborate a bit on hating the push button start. It's not that I really want the feature its more about I'm paying 30k+ for a vehicle and its missing something a 15k car has. Kinda like the whole drum brakes thing. Still going to buy the truck though.

I was not commenting on the evidence. I was commenting on the reasoning. I disagree that the conclusion reached is "reasonable", because it is apparently based on the following thought process:

    1) Some people are not skilled manual drivers.
    2) Some people prefer automatic transmissions.
    3) Therefore all people who prefer automatic transmissions must be unskilled manual drivers.

This reasoning is flawed. By analogy, a person can be an excellent mechanic and yet prefer to pay to have mechanical work done because he might not enjoy exercising his mechanical skills. A person's skill level in a given area does not always mean that he enjoys exercising those skills.

Toyboxx - thanks for this report. First one I've heard. I think the throws are going to be longer (truck vs. car) Anyone drive one yet who knew the 2nd Gen MT?

I hope the clutch is better. I drive a 2009 AC SR 4x4 and the clutch is terrible. Also, the gears are not that smooth. It sounds like they have attempted to improve the smoothness with ball bearings. Hope to drive one soon and find out.

Kinda hard to explain why I don't like push button start. Something about pushing a cheap plastic button to start and stop the engine just didn't feel right to me. I guess it lacked the tactile feel of twisting a key. It was really annoying to get it in and out of accessory mode too. Once it got stuck in accessory mode and I just had to leave the car until it timed out and shut off. I'd rather not pay extra for a feature that I consider utterly useless.

Amen, brother. I keep saying the same and people give me looks like I am crazy. The summary is this: I love the keyless start, but I hate the push button!!!

The ideal implementation is simple: a rotary switch that works and feels like a key. But, no, marketing types decided it's easier to sell a "button" and the sheep bought into it. :annoyed:

On the surface what you are saying makes sense. In practice, any skill in order to be maintained and improved needs to be... used. A once skilled manual driver may no longer be one.

Also, I believe, if someone is truly skilled in something, he should be loving using his skill.

Well, the original quote that I was commenting on was:
"Never understood the traffic argument, never will. I guess some people don't really know how to drive manuals, if it bothers them in traffic."

This actually says (although it's true that the word chosen is "guesses") that the only conceivable reason that someone might prefer to drive an auto trans is because they don't really know how to drive manuals. My point was that this is not a valid conclusion.

I know of people who are very good at something yet don't enjoy doing that thing. A friend of mine is very good at organizing conferences of many kinds and has done it professionally. Yet she absolutely loathes organizing conferences, and changed her job, and accepted a lower salary, solely in order to avoid organizing conferences.

As to whether she and those like her 'should' love using their skills, I'll leave that one to the philosophers.

Not really. We've been just killing time waiting for more manual transmission test drive reports. Sucks there've been only one. I hope to test drive one myself within a week if the dealer I've been in touch with gets the O/R MT truck he is expecting.

I would love to know why it looks like that. It is quite strange looking. Almost appears to be two pieces?
