Simply, I am confirming that the USA has been called out on imperialistic policies and actions by far more people lately than the empire of Japan.

Great write up. Man, so much ugly here for VW and they will get what they deserve.

A couple of things I have noticed over the years with the emissions on the diesels, is that they are actually using more fuel to meet the emissions, so they would actually be more efficient from a gph pov without the Tier 3 or 4 requirements. I am assuming that this would be the same for these little engines.
The other is the cost of installation as gone up 15% to 30% to install the Tier 4 compliant units and this is a real big deal to those who are installing them. I have put together bids for multi-million $ plants and it is shocking just how much this costs to comply with the emmissions regs.

The EPA orignally said that the urea systems would add only $1500 to each on highway truck and that number turned out to very, very, very optimistic and these are the same rules that they are applying to marine and stationary plant as well.

I am a greeny, so I agree with the emmissions regs to a majority degree, just not sure about the phase in periods as far as time to develop the technology goes to meet the standards on larger units.

And my question still remains, do you agree with that assertion? And who are those "far more people"?

Not sure why you are trying to corner me on this. I agree that the USA has engaged in imperialism if you must know my personal opinion. The current definition of Imperialism is

Given the unilateral actions the USA has taken over the past 50 years in several conflicts often hauling in their allies as necessary would you not say, by definition, that the USA has engaged in imperialism? Not to mention the fact that the USA has more troops on foreign soil than any other nation by a factor of ten. Here's a map showing USA troop distribution overseas. Blue is over 1000 troops, light blue is over 100 troops, and orange means there has been recent military action or engagements by the US armed forces since 2013.

Anyways, I'm not sure why you are calling me out. I never said imperialism was evil or unnecessary for the USA to continue their current foreign policy stance, which I do not find "evil". I do find it funny though that someone would call Japan imperialistic and not look in the mirror and evaluate the way their own country conducts foreign policy worldwide.

A big question is in places where they smog test will the VW need a special sticker to certify that it's been reprogrammed. I mean, anyone can copy a sticker, but it'll still be a PITA.

This is going to be bad for the Diesel industry. I could see additional testing becoming standard for all cars as well. What a nightmare VW could of started for everyone...

One can never have too many light bars.
Other links said that the BMW diesels performed as expected. The WVU study that was reported to CARB and the EPA also tested a BMW and it performed just as advertised. I think this is just speculation at this point as the article doesn't say BMW did anything wrong but they are suspects.
