Now i'm really wondering how many other car makers will get caught, as I'm sure VW and BMW aren't the only ones to do this. If anything, this will tighten up testing and hopefully get rid of ringer cars that get theoretical mpg numbers that are never seen in actual use.

I still don't know how I feel about this, part of me doesn't really care and wouldn't stop me from owning a diesel VW.

For me it's like finding out Barry Bonds did steroids, not a Giants fan so I couldn't care less.

Anybody else watch VW's stock drop 17% in one day and see a wonderful opportunity?

I've always wanted a Toureg TDI. 36 mpg on an SUV sounds nice.

One can never have too many light bars.
I am a Giants fan and I don't think he should get in the hall. I always hear the "He was so good that he would have been in anyways" but he cheated and that should be the punishment. It sets a presidence for future players and will hopefully keep others from making his mistakes. Same goes for these companies. They lied to consumers so therefore they should be punished to set a presidence for all companies, not just automakers, that if you lie to consumers you will go down in flames.

Seriously, this is a world class black eye for Germany, a beacon of economic prowess in Europe. If you cant get er done...cheat. They tell other nations how to get their economic shit together, while the economic player is fudging major rules. Glad to see every major player in the auto industry guilty of some shit. Another shattered myth. I agree with Sterdog, wait to buy until the fine is laid down and they're giving away the stock!

A lot more than 17% recently. Went from $176 to $101 from what I saw, but yes... Sooner or later they will be back up again, be nice to ride that train.

I also agree with this, I VERY nearly bought a 2012 TDI before I got my Tacoma. The questionable reliability ended up killing it for me, but save a few thousand dollars and it might bring me back.

    maybe the epa needs investigating

The federal agency that has the job of protecting the environment doesn’t seem to have too much concern for trees, at least the ones cut down to make furniture.

The Environmental Protection Agency over the past decade has spent a whopping $92.4 million to purchase, rent, install and store office furniture ranging from fancy hickory chairs and a hexagonal wooden table, worth thousands of dollars each, to a simple drawer to store pencils that cost $813.57.

EPA. Another over bloated fed agency. At an annual budget of 9 billion and 15,000 employees, I bet they do near as much environmental damage as they proport to protect.

Yes , letting diesels exceed pollution levels by up to 40 times is much wiser and a better investment in the future

I don't believe anyone is advocating that. Too bad an agency with 15 thousand members and a 9 billion dollar budget couldn't police the cheaters.

I find it hard to believe a government agency isn't doing it's job.

Typical .gov agency. Should be leading, but follow.
